This year I toured round the Isle Of Skye. I hope to write a full report of all the places I visited soon. Elgol was my favourite - this was my 3rd visit... and definately not my last!
|
After visiting Elgol for the first time about 14 years ago I was hooked. I always wanted to return, but never got round to it. Last year I was able bring the family with me and it was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing long weekends of my life. This year was even better as we were able to tour orund the whole island of Skye over 2 weeks (see future reports). But Elgol was the highlite. We spent 3 nights there in B&B. We walked, we climbed, we relaxed, and the highlite was seeing the seals in Loch Coruisk - it was one of the most amazing places I have ever seen. You're totally cut off from everywhere! Definately a welcome change from the ustle and bustle of Bristol!

Favourite spots: |
Loch Coruisk is a must visit if you ever get to Skye. We went on the Misty Isle as it was much cheaper than the other boat which it turned out was being run by folk who didn't even live on Skye! I wasn't disappointed! The view leaving Elgol is awesome. You go straight out towards the Cuillins (We were told which ones but I can't remember now - but they are great!). We saw something like 40 or 50 seals. And then you walk up to where the loch is and it's just stunning. Thankfully we had good weather so it was all the more beautiful. It was just one of these amazing days out. The guy running the trip has been doing it for years and was brought up in Elgol so knows pretty much anything you ask. And he spoke Gaelic too which was a nice touch. Highly recommended.

What's really great: |
Everything. Elgol just has atmosphere. The locals are friendly, it's quiet, the scenery is (have I mentioned this?!) amazing! The only pain about the trip is thta it's a pretty narrow winding single road to get there. We actually enjoyed this - I think it added to the atmosphere, and the views all the way there are stunning anyway, but it can be quite a treck! You need yto take it easy!!

Sights: |
You must make it an ambition to see Loch Coruisk before you die! You can walk it if you think you're hard enough! But we went on the Misty Isle and it was amazing, we'd definately do it next time we get back (hopefully next year)

Restaurants: |
We ate at the local restaurant - I think it was the Coruisk House (possibly Cuillin House, but I think it was Coruisk). It was fantastic. Proper restaurant food.

I've seen many of Europe's great sights and I still reckon Coruisk is one of the top ones. How nice to read somebody else's report on this area. I'm really looking forward to your next reports. |

Nice first report Michael, hopefully you'll write more. It's a shame you've not been able to add any photos, I bet it's a beautiful place to see.
Cheers, Clive |
