There is something special and magical about Jerusalem. Something that you dont get by reading or listening but only by simply experiencing it yourself.
|
Exquisite fragrance from the olive trees, elegance of places of worship and enchanting history seamlessly part of the daily life in the city, together make Jerusalem very special. Single place that is considered the holiest by three of the major religions of this world. During 1998, I visited Israel together with a group of colleagues. We actually ended up covering the breadth and depth of the country. When people asked me to describe how it felt to be in Israel and especially in Jerusalem, I could not explain it. Still, I remember even today, my experience of getting emotional 'goose pimples' that happens when you are touched by something so intriguingly close to your heart.

Teacher turned doctor with kids in a concentration camp

It is difficult to choose sites of interest in Jerusalem, with every inch of it nourishing a rish history, be it the western wall, temples, fort, mosque, the stations of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, place of the last supper. These should not be missed anyway. Yad Vashem: We visited this memorial in Jerusalem that reflects Jewish history as endangered by the Holocaust. A lot of research has obviously has gone in establishing and also the effort of collecting rare artifacts and pictures. One thing, I still remember from this place is the sculpture of a jewish teacher holding a group of children in one of the concentration camps, the reflection of fear, helplessness and hope in the faces, is amazingly well carved.

What's really great: |
To appreciate the remainders of the history that promised such a land, you would not need to belong to a particular religion. In Jerusalem, you can see the old armanian style churches, typical middle-east style built temples, fortifications to the magnitudes of walls touching the skies, living icons of what people know now from Bible.
