Margao is the happening city South of Goa. This city has developed in recent times. All along it was the North Goan beaches that were in the limelight, popularized by the flower people – hippies – in the 70s. |

Now it is the turn of South Goa with its temples, forest ranges and of course the beaches to shine bright and beautiful. Margao city per se is very small and centers around one garden. The government offices and the central business district all surround this garden! This is the city, which can satiate any tourist – the beach bum, the pilgrim or the wildlife enthusiast! The famous beaches near Margao are Colva, Benaulim, Cavelossim, Mobor and Palolem. All these beaches are beautiful and clean. Since we were staying near Cavelossim, that was the beach we frequented dawn to dusk! For the adventurous and lovers of water sports there is parasailing, waterscooters and banana boats. There are plenty of beautiful temples in Ponda, an hour's drive from Margao. All are woth the visit. The popular ones are Shantadurga and Mangeshi. Lata Mangeshkar (nightingale of India) and her family are closely asociated with the Mangeshi temple. The Bondla wildlife sanctuary is situated in Ponda too. Its mini zoos, sprawling deer park, botanical and rose gardens attract people through the year. Bondla is a good place to see Sambhar and Wild Boar. Comfortable cottages are available here for tourists. The Zoological Park and garden at Bondia remain closed on Thursdays.

Thank you for the report on the Goa area. You would receive much higher ratings if you would include photos with your reports. We had a very interesting discussion earlier in which we discussed rating articles. The convention suggested that reports without photos receive no higher than a rating of **. Please read some of the discussions in the forum "Travel Writing." Good luck.
