It exsists.... and thats where I found myself living for a year as a foreign exchange student and yes .....life was a dream baby. Surf before High school started then straight back to the beach when school was out. Sweeeeeeeeeet.

San Diego is the last major city in the U.S before you hit Mexico. I can think of far worse places to have to stay for a year. A wonderfull year round climate ensures you are never left wanting for sun. You have your more exclusive areas La Jolla and her shores with all the boutiques and fancy clothes shops as well as the university of Scripps,(Great pier, great surf). However my favorite area was Ocean Beach it was like a trip back to the 70's, slightly bohemian in ambiance and everyone was so chilled.

Favourite spots: |
There are so many great pleaces in San Diego depending on where your tastes lie. Downtown with its great shops and old GasLamp Quater is of noteworthy mention for some great places to go and eat. For me the beach is where its at and you are literally spoilt for choice. Del Mar a little farther north is a great streach of beach which attracts families at the weekend.

What's really great: |
Windansea is legendary in surfing circles and tracking down Skip Fry's shaping shack is a great little mission. Although the crowds can get a bit aggro you have to get up bright and early to beat em for that epic Dawny. Blacks is awesome when its big but again watch for the crowds there are many pros surfing here and its not uncommon to share the linup with Brad and Rob!!!!

|
Accommodations: |
Inrenational Backpackers hostel in O.B far better than the one Downtown , well for me anyway. However if you wanna be close to all the shops and hectic city life downtown is ther one for you. Bannana Bungalow have an establishment here also its a perty hostel though not brilliant if you wanna throw a dawney the next morning......ynow how it goes!!
|
|
Nightlife: |
There was a metal Bar in O.B. where Stone Temple Pilots came to play frequently not for from Lucy's.
|
|
Hangouts: |
I was actually under age while I lived here (18 and 19) so legally I was unable to drink........Its been rumered however that there is a fine drinking establishement called Lucy's in O.B. that serves a good pitcher or too of MGD

|
Restaurants: |
Spagetti Factory this place rocked on a major scale. Great sized portions and well tasty. Benny Haaanas (spelling is probably wrong) Amazing oriental cuisine. Too many Mexican eateries to list here but it would be fair to say while you are here you wont be starving thats for sure!!!!

oh San Diego! i loved that city so much, but I visited when I was 14 and 16years old so I didn't get to touch the bar scene. It'd be sweet to go back once I'm 21.
Did you go to the Del Mar racetrack? I love that place! |
