San Jose is the gateway to Costa Rica. The city by itself is interesting but no reason to travel around half the world. Costa Rica's main attraction is its nature as well as the impressing efforts to preserve it.

Favourite spots: |
IN SAN JOSE: The cafe in front of the National Theater. The Look over the city from the Museo de Jade. IN COSTA RICA Any Place far away from a Costa Rican highway. - because of the potholes huge as the grand canyon. North Shore of Lake Arenal - because of its spectacular views of the volcano. Tamarindo because of all the beaches nearby. The Beach Bar in Playa Avellanda

What's really great: |
I enjoyed most the silence on a deserted beach. I found the guided tours thru the cloud forest really inetresting. And for sure we did the famous canopy tours - you can't leave without that. But overall I was most impressed of how friendly the people have been in their on special manner. How they keep the country clean and what huge efforts goverment and private organisations undertake to preserve the unique nature of that country.

Sights: |
Arenal & Monteverde are must sees if you like nature.

|
Accommodations: |
You'll find lots of accomodation around 30 Dollars / night / double - that was what we were looking for: in Jaco Beach - Las Cabinas Evelyn - right at the beach, friendly and clean. in San Jose - Hotel Aranjuez - best Breakfest we enjoyd. at Lake Arenal: Villa Decary (or something) - little more expansive - but fantastic rooms. in Tamarindo: Cabinas Zully Mar - really nice rooms but extreme lousy service

|
Hangouts: |
Beach Bar in Playa Avellanda - perfect

Restaurants: |

in Jaco: Sushis Q - Barbeque

|
Other recommendations: |
