Snohomish is a lovely farming town nestled in a rich valley. Only about 40 minutes north of Seattle, this is a nice place to stop if you're on your way to Burlington. I lived here for about 9 years and my only complaint was the typical Washington weather.
|
Downtown Snohomish has one main street. On this street you will find a handful of antique shops, a few bouttiques, and some fine dining. Main street is nestled against the Pilchuck River and makes for a lovely walk on a cool summer evening. In the valley can be found the Harvey Airport for small aircraft, feed stores with baby chickens, and a few beautiful scenic winding roads for those who like to drive. Heading south on State Route 9 and taking a left onto Broadway Ave. you will make you way up a hill and from this hill there is an awsome view of the Cascade Mountains. Like many other towns Snohomish is growing and modernizing. There can be found heading north from Snohomish the newer grocery stores, gas stations, and fast food eateries.

Favourite spots: |
One of my favorite spots in Snohomish was Blackmans Lake. This lake was just north east of downtown. Small, hidden, but a very nice state park, Blackmans lake offered fishing, swimming, and picnicing. If you like swimming in a lake and eating a packed lunch under the shade of large Pine trees this is a nice non touristy place to visit.

What's really great: |
There were two winding roads that I preferred to travel when getting from A to B. These took a lil to find but the trip was wel worth it. One of the routes was a back way to get to Everett. Taking SR9 south again and taking Broadway right follow it along and enjoy the scenery. Most of the farms along the way are of Dutch decent. Paper tree farming has been increasing in just the past 10 years. As you head along Broadway turns into Larimer Road and then when you enter the small town the road turns into 2nd Street. keep your eyes open for 52nd street (this should be at a stop sign) and take a left. Follow this road until you are at Broadway again and take a right. Now this will take you righ into the heart of Everett!

Sights: |
The history of Snohomish is interesting. Built up by lumberjacks the town has grown steadily with the times. You should check out the museums downtown to get an idea of these changes that Snohomish has been through.

Accommodations: |
There are a few hotels in Downtown Snohomish. The Inn at Snohomish is just on 2nd street and is quaint.
|
|
Restaurants: |
There is a super Fish market on the corner of SR 9 and Main Street. Here you can eat in or out but the fact remains the same. The food is tasty.
At the end of main street there is a very nice Italian restaurant. On the north side of main street there is an AWSOME family BBQ. The decor makes you feel like you are at a family reunion and the food is so lovely.

This is very interesting, especially to one who lived on Vashon Island for several years. Jesalyn, you would add tremendously to your article (and to your ratings) if you would include photos of some of the sites that you mention.
