Tenganan. A village where you can see original descedants of Balinese - Bali Aga poeple. Actually Tenganan is a village left behinde in years.
The village is surrounded with walls and houses are in two rows up to hill.
|
Tenganan is 4 km west form Candidasa ( relaxed, full of hotels and restaurants ). Fee admission is 5000 Rp per person. All cars and motorcycles must be parked infornt of village.
The village is surrounded with walls and houses are in two rows up to hill. At the end of village ( up to end of hill ) is a primary school full of leafing boys and girls.
TV and all modern electronic devices are hidden away in the traditional houses.
In village you can buy hand made baskets from ATA PALM, Lontar Books - made on LONTAR PALM STRIPS (most of these books are Balinese callendars), traditional Balinese calligraphy (also on Lontar palm strips) and KAMBEN GRINGSING - traditional double ikat cloth. A person who is wearing that is protected against black magic.

Favourite spots: |
Primary school. Full of shining, leafing and friendly boys and girls.
At the time we were there they just had pouse and all kids were eating mango or drinking water from plastic bags.
|
|
What's really great: |
Tenganan local poeple. They are so opend for conversation with strangers. Not shamed of what they are or where they live.
|
|
Restaurants: |
Nearest restaurants are in Candidasa. About 4 km from Tenganan. There is a good range of restaurants. Some hotels have restaurants by the sea.
There are many restaurants along Jl Raya Candidasa. Among the tastiest eateries are at watrungs and food carts ( KAKI LIMA ).
|
|
Other recommendations: |
Candidasa. Relaxed city with several hotels and restaurants. Also a good location to explore the Eastern side of Bali and eastern coast line with snorkling and diving sites.
Interesting sight in Candidasa is Candidasa`s temple - Pura Candidasa ( is on the hill side across the lagoon ) with twin temple devoted to the male - female gods Shiva and Hariti.

This is a very interetsing place to visit. I visited last year, but we paid no admission fee, and weren't asked for it. The report is a bit short and reads more like a travel trip than a report |
