Vang Vieng is a funny town. It's in the middle of nowhere, horrendous busrides either way to Luang Prabang or Vientiane - yet filled with young, white hippie-stylish backpackers tubing, hiking and swimming.

Favourite spots: |
Across the river, into the woods. The town itself reminds of Disneyland without the cartoons.

|
What's really great: |
Surrounding nature is great, huge limestone cliffs remniscent of those in Halong bay, a peaceful river and some caves. Loads of jungle.

|
Accommodations: |
Stayed at some creepy gueshouse for 20,000 kip - it wasn't worth even that. Everything else was full, as we arrived in season (mid-February) and with no reservations. But there is an amazing amount of guesthouses, ten to each main street or so, just try getting there early in the day and getting off your bus as quick as possible.

Restaurants: |
Plenty. All aimed at tourists, none very good (fine for the price, but seen better elsewhere).
