Before I got there, I noticed how often laid back was used to describe Vang Vieng by people who had been there. Once I had spent a day there, I understood why. About every second restaurant on the main street has a tv and lots of videos, and all the visitors do is eat, then smoke dank and watch videos until it's meal time again. If you're going to smoke your days away, go to the 1000 islands in the south of Laos, much better place to do it. I have heard that On average, there are more farangs staying in Vang Vieng than there are Lao people living there.

Favourite spots: |
The tube ride, and the road out of town. The food was not very good anywhere I ate, and it was all about the same price. The guesthouses from what I heard were all about the same price and same quality.

What's really great: |
The thing that salvaged my stop in Vang Vieng was the tube ride. down the river nearby. I can't remember how much it cost, but it was a really refreshing, fun way of spending an afternoon. Ask anyone about tube rides, and they'll send you in the right direction.

Nightlife: |
hehehe

Restaurants: |
Skip the one with the poor pet monkey chained to the wall. It's only there to entertain farang. Stop paying attention and maybe they'll let it go.
