Its a relatively small city compare to any town in Thailand. You would be able to cover the main city attraction by renting a bicycle. I did the city in about 7 hours before departing to Luang Phrabang.

Favourite spots: |
Patuxai which resembles the Arc De Triumphe of Paris and Phat Tha Lung which is one of the most important monument in Vientaine
|
|
What's really great: |
Easy to go around, there is a very good walk on the Laos Lonely Planet. This will about 40mins walk.
|
|
Accommodations: |
I did not put up a night in Vientaine after arriving from Nong Khai, I bought an airticket from Lao Aviation office in Vientaine and did a day trip around the city with a rented bicycle. I left my luggage in the airline office which was quite safe.

Hangouts: |

Hi Yeik Loen... Unfortunately I mostly don't have information about most pubs and clubs in many places I've been .. but it seems that it can't be removed..
How much did it cost to rent a bicycle?
Were there any guides or pamplets to rent for more information on the main attractions? |
