Nov 22, 2014 08:00 PM Paris to Pointe a Pitre

Paris to Pointe a Pitre It was cold, but lovely sun in the morning when I was going by tram T7 back to Orly airport. The tram is nice byt very slow, and the rails are sneaking around so allow 40 minutes for this ride...
On Orly T7 has a stop in the basement of Orly Sud terminal - they offer free ride on skytrain to Orly West terminal.
Our 777 departed on time for 9-hours flighta to Martinique. Hot meal wax tasty, they offered also free wine and beer. Why to Martinique? Because AF offers better one-way fare if you fly via FDF.
After 4 hours waiting in Fort de France airport I boarded half-empty A320 from Cayenne and an hour later we landed on Guadeloupe. It was 11 pm and 26 deg Celsius. A barefoot boy from eGwada hostel was waitin for me. At midnight I was in the bed. But in Europe it was already 5 a.m.

Nov 21, 2014 08:00 PM Gdansk to Paris

Sorry, no direct flights from Gdansk to Gwadelupe... :) So I am forced to fly via Warsaw, Paris and Fort de France...
It was wet and hazy morning when my neighbour took me with his little car to Gdansk airport. Two hours later I landed before the schedule in Warsaw. Free wi-fi internet is here good quality and I had a chance to checkif sufficient found for budget travel is already on my account. Then I checked for Air France flights to my destination. AF plane was full. They serve only one little sandwich and a glass of juice on 2 hours flight to Paris! Sun was shining when we landed on CDG airport. Little traffic but long time waiting for the luggage. 40 minutes! After collecting of my pack I went to "service client" window to wait another 15 minutes for the bus voucher to Orly airport. My onward flight is from Orly and they are obliged to provide free transport! Otherwise you have to pay 21 euro!
Before morning flight I have to spend a night near Orly. The cheapest soluition is now Ibis Budget Chevilly hotel (35 euro for twin room) _ easy to reach by T7 tram. Tram will cost you extra 1,70 eu each way, but is better then 5 kms walk in the dark! Bonne nuit!

Nov 20, 2014 08:00 PM Escape from cold Europe - new voyage!

Escape from cold Europe - new voyage! Short and dark days came to Poland. The rain and wind. Chill around. It is high time to fly to the warm countries :) So I am flying away to a sunny Caribbean. I've been many times in this region of the world, but still I have there new islands to discover- this time less known ones. The journey will begin on the French Guadeloupe. It has the small islands scattered around, which can be reached by ferry. Then I'd like to see Barbuda Island belonging to the State "Antigua and Barbuda", famous for its colony of frigates. Next unknown island to visit will be Nevis. Cheap ship that departs from Miami will take me later to Honduran Roatan, Belize and the Bahamas. I'm going to go back to my hometown Gdansk before Christmas.

Nov 10, 2014 08:00 PM Celebrating 30th meeting of Polish Globies

Celebrating 30th meeting of Polish Globies It is hard to believe. But OSOTT - the annual meeting of Polish Globetrotters started 30 years ago. It was invented by Andrzej Urbanik and Krzysztof Kmiec. Since then every year in November the top Polish travellers had a chance to meet and to share their experience. This year we celebrate 30th anniversary of OSOTT. That's why most of us brought to Rzeszow costumes from all over the world. In the evening we get toogether to have a glass of champagne and of course - a lot of fun. The hit costume was presented by Jurek Grembosz, who is exploring since years the primitive civilizations of Papua and Melanesia - see Jurek and me on the picture :)

Nov 08, 2014 08:00 PM Globetrotters meeting in Rzeszów

Globetrotters meeting in Rzeszów This was cloudy and foggy day in Rzeszów but we dod not have the time to go out og the building. Slide shows started just after breakfast and finished after midnight with a short breaks for the meals only. I had two presentations: about a trek to Mustang and about the little-known Brazilian achchipelago Fernando de Noronha. For me this was also a chance to promote my book. See the charming university students from Rzeszów University on the picture - they were helping us to conduct all event smooth :)

Nov 07, 2014 08:00 PM Going to Annual Meeting of Polish Globetrotters

Going to Annual Meeting of Polish Globetrotters It was hazy morning in Gdansk and stll dark when I was going to the Gdansk Airport. The well-known meeting of Polish Globies takes place in provincial city of Rzeszów - in thr southeastern corner of Poland so heading there I have to cross all my country. To shorten the time of the long journey I decided to fly to Warsaw and then continue by Polski Bus - if you book early you can pay only 2 zlotys (75 cents) for 5 hours journey.
Our meeting since 2 years is supported by Rzeszow University and as a result all speakers have free accommodation in the classy Rzeszow Hotel. Before the meeting started at 4 pm I had a chance to meet my friends from all over Poland - all of them are passionate travellers. I had also a chance to meet for the first time Alexander Doba - the man of my age who crossed solo Atlantic Ocean by small kayak. You can see us on the picture. Slide shows one by one took us to the all continents. Before midnight I was already too tired to stay longer. What a pictures, what a stories!

Nov 01, 2014 08:00 PM New edition of my book...

New edition of my book... I spent more then 12 hours at the printing plant in Gorna Grupa, some 100 kms from Gdansk assisting in the formation of the second edition of my book "To the seven continents". After a few months break, my book (304 pages, in Polish, but with 245 color pictures) is now again on sale and can be ordered on the http://www.kontynenty.net/zamawiam.php -page.

Oct 27, 2014 08:00 PM From Porto to Poland

From Porto to Poland They say that there is only 17 kms from the center of Porto to the airport - it is important hub for low-cost airlines. I fly home also by low-cost. The access to the airport is very convenient: metro is the best mode to come there. Ticket costs 1,85 euro plus the refundable cost of plastic card. But... I was surprised when I came inthe morning to the metro station - it was announced on electronic display that the next train to the airport will depart in 26 minutes!
Start early! Also because there are minimum15 stops on the route... Allow 1,5 hour for the transport and another 30 minutes to wait in the loooong line to the security control.
Security guys are strict in Porto - I had in my pack as emergency food a mini-can of meat. It was traveling with me already in 3 planes without any problem. Belive or not -in Porto airport it was confiscated. Paranoid!
I had few hours waiting in Bergamo for the connection to Gdansk. After sunny and hot Portugal it was cloudy and only 13 deg Celsius in Bergamo. I bought a ticket for the bus to the city of Bergamo. For 2.20 euro it took me to the old town overlooking the new city. The old Bergamo is not big, but worth a visit - especially basilica Santa Maria Maggiore. I was walking back to the airport by foot - yes, it is possible! Just take a free map from the tourist office and go!
We landed in Gdansk in the late evening. Cold, only 8 deg Celsius, brrrr.... Welcome home after another interesting journey to the sunny countries! And get ready for the next voyage!

Oct 26, 2014 08:00 PM Guimaraes - where Portugal was born

Guimaraes - where Portugal was born Porto has two railway stations: Companha - through station and big one and the terminating station of San Bento - in the heart of the old town.
I started from San Bento to Guimaraes. It is 70 min journey and round trip ticket costs like 7 euro.
Guimaraes is a litte town with a rich history. First Portugeese king - Alfonso I ruled from here since 1111. His small but well preserved castle is second attraction of the town. I was walking about half an hour from the station to see the picturesque ruin - entry is free.
Close to the castle you will see little Roman church of St Michael an then - 100 m away - an old palace of Dukes of Braganza. They charge here 5 euro but it is worth to see the halls, furniture, weapons, paintings etc. This is UNESCO World Heritage site and worth to recommend.
Back in Porto I was sad because it was my last day in Portugal. Let you know that the bottle of red wine costs here from 2 euro, but real portwein - 6 and more. Let's celebrate!

Oct 25, 2014 04:00 PM Poor Lisbon!

Poor Lisbon! Rail journey in Portugal costs less then in Spain and they offer discounts so I decided to travel from Coimbra to Porto by train. I never been to Porto before and I must say that I am enchanted. Sorry Lisbon! Porto is situated on the high banks of Douro river which flows to the ocean like in the canyon. There are picturesque high bridges linking both sides of the city and a quarter of old riverside houses. Porto is hilly so you climb the streets or go down all the time. It has old churches and palaces and many places to try pamous Porto wines :)
I stay in the very basic Porto Madrid residencial. They charge only 10 euro for the room with bunk bed but the bath is one lewel below. But it is very clean and silent. I like Porto...
