You can lose everything, but nobody will take away what you saw and what you experienced...

Feb 25, 2004 07:00 PM Drakensberg Mountains, RSA
There is a place in South Africa worth to recommend: Inkosana Lodge in Central Drakensberg. Friendly, well maintained, with beautiful view of 3000 m-high peaks. I was so sorry to stay there only 2 nights... I took mountain walks to the level of 2100 m - I did not expected that baboon monkeys live on this altitude... Beautiful panoramas, flowers, birds, silence ... but the weather is very changeable - take your raincoat even if the sun is shining... To get there take a BazBus to Winterton or Greyhound to Eastcourt and then african minibus-taxi as I did...

Feb 22, 2004 07:00 PM The Kingdom of Swaziland
There is a king. He has 9 legal wives and two brides... Can you believe? In the peaceful country I stayed in the Sondzela hostel located in the game park close to the capital - Mbabane. There were plenty of wild animals around and... long walk to the nearest bus stop... But the main attraction of my visit in the Kingdom was folk dance competition - just amazing 4-hours spectacle in the open- air amphitheatre....

Feb 18, 2004 07:00 PM Baz Bus to Mbabane...
I found it very convenient - it is door-to-door service opserating between backpackers hostels...

Feb 18, 2004 07:00 PM Kruger National Park - overrated?
Back by air in South Africa I drove to the famous Kruger National Park. I spent there 2 days sleeping in the camp, expecting a lot from professional guides. Sorry the Park (one of the biggest in Africa) is well organized but in comparison to the parks in Tanzania, Kenia and Zimbabwe I saw little animals and almost all of them from the long distance.... Maybe it was the question of luck... Better go to Ngorongoro!

Feb 14, 2004 07:00 PM Calandula Falls - the jewels of Angola
400 km east of Luanda lies Malanje - the capital of the province. Water and electricity shortages, sometimes no petrol, bumpy roads but very nice and hospitable people.
I went trere to see Calandula Falls - the biggest ones in Angola. It is still 70 km by bumpy road. But it was worth the effort - the are fantastic! More then 100 meters high, with big load of water! Unforgetable experience!

Feb 12, 2004 07:00 PM Luanda, Angola - 29 Celsius...
Angola - peaceful after years of wars is still hard-to-get destination. Luanda where I landed is quite nice city - at least regarding the centre. It has charming, palm-fringed corniche, some nice colonial buildings and... photo - phobia. Do not try to take the camera off your bag!
It is probably the result of the war...
Luanda is also very expensive to stay - taxi ride is like 20 USD, hotel prices start at 90 USD per day per room and it is difficult to get accommodation. Look for the friend to stay!

Feb 09, 2004 07:00 PM Kingdom of Lesotho
Without visa I crossed the border via mountain pass of Monantsa to the Kingdom of Lesotho.
No check points on Lesotho side - really rural villages. Beautiful views of 3000-meters plus peaks... Wonderful, friendly people. Horses, sheeps and cows - Wild South... No beggars. Smiles... Using junk bus I mooved to the mountain village of Semonkong - more the 4 hours drive... From Semonkong I took a hike to Maletsunyane Fall - single 200-m drop! I forgot that it was 2200 m above sea level I got
heavy sunburn... Still worth the effort...

Feb 05, 2004 07:00 PM Dragon Mountains - RSA
I am happy to be back in Africa...
Tourist BazBus took me from crowded Joburg
to Drakensberg in few hours...
From Amphitheatre Lodge I walked to the bottom of Tugela Fall - it still exists! Water drops down more then 850 m in few stages... Exciting! Heavy rain stopped me half of the way to the top of the fall - the weather here is hard to predict...

Oct 12, 2003 02:00 PM Anamur - far from the crowd
I took a long dıstance bus from Alanya along the coast to Anamur. Buses are comfortable ın Turkey - they serve free softdrınks and cookıes on board. I paid 15 lıra for 3 hours drıve wıth beautıful panoramas of the coastlıne. Take a seat at the rıght wındow! Taurus Mountaıns are comıng to the sea here so you drıve through the swıtchbacks and on the clıffs...
In Anamur I found a room close to the OTOGAR - bus termınal - frıendly owner of hotel Dodehan after bargaınıng offered me s room wıth bath for 10 euro. Sorry - it ıs located close to the mosque so you are forced to lısten to their prayıng calls several tımes of the day and nıght. Be patıent! They calebrate Baıram holıday sınce yesterday - the ramadan ıs over!
It ıs long 3-km walk to the beach from the otogar - I went there to swım at sunset - ıt was great pleasure regarding the night frost ın my country. The prıce of the food is lıke ın Poland - 2,5 l of coke costs 2.5 lıra. Bıg bread roll - 0,40. Tomorrow mornıng I plan to vısıt famous Anamur Castle...
