jorgesanchez - Dec, 19 2007 01:12pm Wojciech, there is another, not so plain, interpretation of the Sphinx. I think that it is a legacy of the wisdom of our ancestors. Some historians affirm that its origin is not during the IV Dynasty Pharaoh Khafre times, but much older, being thus pre-Egyptian (maybe about 9.000 years ago). A theory says that it represents the four elements, other affirms that it contains the four animals’ symbols adopted by the four Evangelists (body of a bull, legs of a lion, wings (today disappeared but when it was erected the wings were there) of an eagle, and the face of an angel. And still, another one says that it represents the humane conscience accomplished. I think that the old Egyptians civilization was much wiser than our present one. By the way, the smile of the Sphinx was what I most loved of Egypt; I used to sleep by its legs.
