Montreal, Canada's former capital and former largest city, seems to have been slowly declining in importance. There are three distinctive parts of the city. One is the part dominated by the modest sky-scrapers, where the central station is. The other part is the old town, or what is left of it, combined with the old harbour, which is being re-organised and is being given a major face-lift to fit into a more visitor-friendly character being planned for it. And the third is the one across the river, where the Biosphere is located - green and eco-like. In general, Montreal is a very pleasant city, which is safe to wander about at any time of day or night. There is still plenty to do to enhance its appeal, mainly the old town and the old harbour, but it is clean and rather friendly. The city is bilingual, although French is the dominant language, and some taxi drivers do not speak English at all. Montreal is very well connected with the rest of the world via its international airport. [edit text]  [editors]
