Hi everybody,

did you ever wonder what you would do first, if you would get the chance to discover GLOBO for the first time in your live again? I have followed a few people around me while they saw GLOBO for the first time. Most people did click on the world map first and then have been somehow lost. The problem was that not everybody for example knew that he/she would land inside a country by clicking an image inside a region. Than what? They click around and then maybe leave or come back if they remember. Some even thought that this is a booking page and did not discover the whole meaning of the site.

The problem is the same as any other site has. The next page is just a click away and mighty google decides which page is visible and which is not. There is one sollution around this which also in the same time might be able to fix other issues on GLOBO. Tell the people what GLOBO is, and get the right ones to sign up. That way we get the chance to show the others GLOBO and make them remember to come back.

The homepage now is showing a statement what GLOBO is, and what people can expect to do here. I also will give them the direct chance to sign up. Now, this is not really spectacular, but I believe that it is important and it will open the doors to the next development step: "Lower the entry barriers of the sign up process" That is just in the works and should be ready by tomorrow.

Please feel free to reply with improvement suggestions, if you believe that there is another message which fits in there and describes it better than the one right now.

Best regards,

Andy

Andy,

Looks good. Nice BIG letters that draw attention.

Maybe add;

share your photos and travel tips with us

(or similar words)

The 'join us' link doesn't work (in firefox) , You are probably working on it.

That is better Andy. I see the clickable map is still available under "Guides" for those who like to use it. I find it often better to brows using the map and generated lists than to type in an exact place name under "Travel search". Marianne is right, the button "join now" doesn't work yet.

P.S: The extended number of Member snaps on the homepage is great too, should be 5x3 or 5x5 to match other shapes on the page? Hope 32k modems deal OK with the build up. Test?

I think this is a good decision to have a message instead of the world map.

Maybee you could think of a variety of different messages and have them come up alternatively.

I also like the more members portraits as rudy mentioned.

Do you also think of a possible layout with a pom in portrait format?

What I saw lately were a few pics on the main site which were not right a country map where a picture should be or a pixely mess in another spot.

I found Globo when searching for Castelvetrano, a very small place btween Teruel and Morella. Since I liked the look of it, I joined immediately.

I decided to have a go at some reports and later tried other features. I wouldn't claim total knowledge of the site even now and I have often asked questions of others - and answered a lot myself.

For ages I never used the 'home' button and it was ages before I even clicked on the logo and found the world map! OK- so that makes me thick; but perhaps a lot of others are as well. One thing that is fairly normal for us thickies is to look at the main page. A very simple thing to help us would be 'HOME in huge letters just by the logo. We shouldn't need it but - we're thick! So we do.

Then on the home page there could be a prominent 'New members' guidance' button. Just some ideas on what might have helped me decide whether to stay around, if I had been in doubt.

Best wishes

David

a) me too - andys pixely member pic

b) the 'join us' button on the mainpage still doesn't work

i miss the worldmap because it allows me to switch through the continents easily and fast. and i haven't found an alternative.

when i came to globo i used the worldmap first to look for places of interest and where i was in holiday. when finished, i take the 'home' button to see new entrys and what happened on globo, then start to enter a new country via worldmap.

later on the memberpics where a good inspiration to look around the globe.

my thoughts

Hi everybody,

thank you for your feedback. As you see there has just been an update to the GLOBO software. The pixeled picture of myself was due to an error that has been fixed right away (or was it just me with square (pixeled) eyes after that much programming :-) ). Such mistakes happen with that kind of update. A fairly complex task.

The portrait pictures are already here now with that update (that was fast Martin, right? Just bye the time your wrote it :-) )

Best regards,

Andy
