Old House, Pulau Ubin Island, Singapore's by el2995

Singapore City - Singapore Most of Pulau Ubin’s scenery is of the natural variety, but there are a number of old kampung-style shacks and stilted houses (some renovated and occupied) to be seen during a bike ride around the island. There are a few Chinese and Thai religious shrines that can be checked out in addition to a small Visitor’s Center located near the main jetty and the police station. Much of the northwestern portion of the island is off limits to the public, as it houses a large Singapore Police training facility. While I was there, I came across a group of local Outward Bound children and teens that were being given a course in jungle survival by a rather powerful-looking ‘Straits Indian’ ex-Special Forces commando who had done 32 years in the Singaporean Army, much of it training US SEALS, French SOF and British / Aussie SAS in the art of SE Asian jungle survival; I watched as he taught the rather squeamish class how to humanely kill and field dress a frog for eating.
