Set in the geographical middle of Europe, Berlin is the capital of a unified Germany again and important EU city. The city of Bonn represented the "west" temporarly from 1949-99 after a "blockade" of soviet influence. Now after the breakup of the "iron-curtain" and fall of the "Berlin Wall" in 1989 and reunification, it is has developed and been renovated to accomodate political representation and grandure it enjoyed before and between many wars.
The whole metropolitan area of 5 million inhabitants is very multi-cultural. Berlin should really be called "Spandau" (now a district) established in the 12th century. It is also Germany's capital of art, culture and media. [edit text][editors]
