That's how I feel sometimes on this site - as though I take a lot and give little. Others seem to do far more as moderators etc.

I can't offer to do anything that requires great computer knowledge but there might be some drudgery to be done sometimes after the computer thing has been worked out. I don't mind that idea. The one advantage of retirement is having time.

I can only offer. Don't be put off by the fact that I moderate on another board. I don't see it as a competitor site - totally different and much smaller. Almost complementary.

Hi David

Noticing that once again you are on top of the weekly list, I really don't think you are a parasite... you do a wonderful job by putting up such a great amount of great content and are a great member of our community.

I'm sure that Andy will contact you whenever he needs your help :-)

Have a great day

Mortimer

Why? Inspite of tech problems you have given us so much David! You are the greatest! Within only a year and within the next two months you are sure to be #1 on points at GLOBO. Also, you are now leading the visitors list - within a few days you will be the first GLOBOmember to have achieved a HALF-A-MILLION clicks to your pages. I assume it is your correct and diverse use of vocabulary in your reports for so many destinations that are found by external web-users via search engines like "Google". Every visitor to your pages is also potentially one to ours too and potentially another new member. Already NINE referred members from you I see.

Thanks David!

Thanks for reminding me of the referred members. yes, that is useful and it cheers me.

For the rest, that's rather what I mean. I just do the things that are fun on the site and generally get good gradings but I don't do any of the more distasteful work.

I don't want to carry this on and certainly not to angle for compliments but I'd be glad of a job to do.

Staff would not let me be an official moderator because I get hot headed sometimes and even rude. That is easier than writing reports for me :-)

Everyone can help at GLOBO, there is always so much to do other than the classical uploads. If I had the time and was payed for it I would be online 9 hours a day:

- greeting and helping newbees

- complimenting really great uploads

- watching out for bad material and missuse

- thinking of improvements to the site

- rating pictures and reports uploaded before I joined

- doing statistics to help staff find award candidates

- running lists for new photographic themes

- writing tips (those lead to payed advertisers)

- destination reports (1000's to be done)

- chatting

A lot of pictures are extreamly underrated from a time when GLOBO only accepted natural landscape panoramas. On rainy days I sometimes look at the ** star pictures around the pages http://www.globosapiens.net/gallery/pics-1200.html (plus and minus) I find about 1:20 of them atleast *** and 1:50 of them should be ****

A lot of work to be done there!

Thanks Rudi

You're right. A lot of these things I do already and I feel much better for thinking positively about that. Others I certainly can do - and I'll try. I don't think I feel up to the 'suggesting themes' but that leaves enough!

I "rangutan" am a parasite too! According to one moderator, accused of trying to take over GLOBO as my own and try to S-i-t-D!

This is not the case. Like most of our members I am a very shy and scientific individual person. I will always help GLOBO as much as I can for the interest of all members and all external viewers too as much as I can and only as much as my LIMITED time allows.

I will be slowing down now. Sorry to be too active. I have a lot of free time now and will be loading a lot of stuff till the end of January then be cooling down and concentrating on "Findix" and "Ebay" in February and then in March my wife is back here and all gets back to the normal limited daily time schedules. Till then please bare me please!

If the moderators will logon at least ONCE a week (some don't for 6 weeks) they will surly promote the good ideas WE ALL have suggested for GLOBO, regardless if some are silly and to be shelved? We all have a lot to do still. I have over 40 ideas still to be implimented if anybody wants them? We can make GLOBO our #1 personal travel database for sure, just some improvements are nesessary, if we wish?

Rangutan Rudi :- (

P.S: Funny, after my suggestion which leeded to the moderatators dislike of me, this Forum appears as "A bi... [restricted access]..." in the 24-hour review which is exactly what I wanted to change for all of us! What do OTHER moderators think?

Rudi,

What a pity that others fail to see the positive aspects of your contributions to our website. For me, your suggestions for improving Globosapiens are always welcomed. I, too, am shy. What expressiveness I have tends to show itself through my involvement in many projects. I definitely understand the concept of scientific minds tending to be zealous in our endeavors.

It is always a pleasure to read your comments and work. Thank you for all that you do.

Some words about moderating:

As you sure know I am the moderator of the Travel Photography and Help Forum. My moderator rights are only within the small possibilites of those two forums. I can edit or delete posts. I can move topics. I can close topics. I can delete topics and thats it.

Every other thing or improvement you have is all depending on staff so you have to complain to staff. Moderators are not in a position to improve something on the site.

As this is a travellers site some of them may be travelling and therefore not moderating the forum. Others may have lost interest. There is not so much activity in the fora so there's not much work involved perhaps they don't bother.

I do support your ideas and am willing to help you with more ideas and develop ideas you have but it's only depending on interest or time of staff wether or not it will be implemented.

Hello everybody,

I would like to bring my point of few into this discussion.

I do value all the suggestions made by rangutan and other members equaly and those ideas are in my mind while I do search for ways to improve this travel community software.

However I believe that the improvement suggestions are too many. The focus has shift from publishing into development. I have an open ear for ideas, but I believe that GLOBO has reached a point where we do have very good system at our hands to build a community without any further main improvements. It is now time to fill the place with live, people and good information. Take the chance and opurtunity you have and publish reports or other things to your travel page on GLOBO. I believe that this is a great oportunity and much more could be done within the limited possibilities this site already offers.

Let's not forget most members on GLOBO are here to exchange travel info and learn about destinations. Technical development should of course be an issue as well, but just a small one.

Best regards,

Andy
