Moin Andreas,

Marianne said it in good words that rating should be open for everyone and not limited to the few I think of they would prefer good ratings.

I think: everyone or none. To decide that would be enough for me.

I think Jorge's sequence of pictures on Russian dancing is an excellent example of some that should not be rated on their own (unless he wamts t nominate any for rating by not using an ignore button.) On the other hand they would make an excellent 5* album.

I have not consulted Jorge about this and it's just my own opinion. It's not something I thought much about until I read the suggestion here. Andy, you said you were thinking about it. I hope this will influence your thinking.

Hi folks,

I agree with all the above points except the idea of "not rating at all" or "blocking from being rated". I missed this event and discussion while I was travelling and do not want to generate any new argument. My views on rating are well documented in the Photography Forum:

- arguments, discussion, diversity makes GLOBO interesting!

- rating is important for the system to sort pictures

- the more who rate the more representative & correct the average

- rating helps show the best first at GLOBO

- rating very bad material * helps hide our trash at the bottom of lists

- the whole range of star system should be used not only 5*s for everything

- if in doubt, add a star

- for a repetitive series of pics rate the best pic top and others lower

- not rating at all is like rating 0

Martin points out correctly that *** is still good and even ** a useful travel picture, some still don't realise that!

I learned hard at GLOBO that no comment is better than a bad comment. Just rating says enough and is a comment in itself - no member should be forced to explain their rating.

PS: anyone in doubt about what is wrong with their pictures can "contact" me or any active member for a discrete comment.

Do you really think the discussion under this picture is interesting?

Martin

I found it horrible - which is why I so easily agreed to your suggestion.

Martin/David, I now understand! The discussion horrible under that picture. I wish staff would always be notified immediately so that such unsuitable words/text be removed and warn/disqualify rude and aggressive members. That picture and this forum thread should be deleted. The picture should be reloaded for a new try.

R'Rudi

P.S: I have never met a "racist" traveller. Travellers (well say 99%) enjoy learning about the culture of others and respect the differences of opinion in the world much more than others!
