@ all moderators

I did post the same suggestion already in the open board but would like to remeber once again everybody that it would be good to clean up the fora.

delete old posts that are no longer interesting

delete topics that are double

move topics to the relevant forum

Have a great day

Hi all!

I would really appreciate some thoughtful discussion about the topic of cleaning up the forums, with the goal of getting some agreement about what should stay or go.

I think we all agree that obviously spam-like entries should go, but what about cases where the information was once relevant, but is aging... For instance, someone asks a question that is not answered. How long do you think an inquiry like that should stay up? Moderators, what criteria do you use to determine what is relevant to your topic? (this is especially daunting for me in the "Open" board, because by very definition it is supposed to be open!

Also, if someone posts a topic on a forum that really belongs in a different category, can we do anything about that (other than wholesale delete it on the less relevant board?)

Would love to hear all your thoughts about this....

Thanks!!

Hi Liz

I just checked through some old entries in the open board and found the following:

Christmas Whishes from 2002 and 2003 are not really interesting.

Improvement notifications of admin of things that are older than 2004 are just a fact for us nowadays, no need to keep them.

Questions that didn't get replies from 2002 ... I think there is not much chance that the information is still needed nor that somebody will reply.

I did delete all obsolete topics where answers were not longer relevant, where information is not longer needed and so on.

If a topic in in the wrong forum there is the possibility to move it to another more relevant forum. Even if you haven't got moderation rights to the other forums.

Some thoughts of mine.

Martin

Happy New Year to everybody.

Hi Moderators,

Instead of deleting (unless really trashy) why not move the unwanted or old items to a new section simply called "Archive" where is could be recalled or revived by members if needed to its original place? Example, “errors” that reoccur. That makes your decisions easier and your forums more structured.

Also, is it possible for you to correct some of the titles, the title often does not fit the content or purpose eg: "Hey Andi" or "Hi". Some occasions should dated like "Merry Christmas 2006" (should be one thread anyway) or "Olympics 2004", “Goa Music Festival 2005” ?

If double entries are to be deleted the content of one should be transferred to the primary thread, the moderator simply using copy and paste, then the second thread deleted.

If a Forum is really large, should not new topics be created? “Asia and Oceania” seems to be huge!

Just my two Kruger Rands :-)
