jorgesanchez Premium account Joined: May 05 Points: 41625 Posts: 77 Posted: 2005-10-19 07:39:00    This is to inform you that yesterday 18.10.05 I wrote another report “1 month hopping the Caribbean islands on the cheap”. Is a regular report, I do not pretend to be the best, or receive always 4 or 5 points, of course, it is just another one, and I think is useful for the info and to share my experiences with others. Then I look today in the morning 19-10.05 the ratings and it has four; three members gave me 5 points each, thanks. But a fourth member, anonym, must have given me only 1 points, because in the general list is in the rank number 175! If this fourth member had given me 4 points, it should be around the number 6 or 7, with a 3 about number 20, with a 2 about number 60, and with a 1 in number 175. I do not complain if somebody did not like my report, but I would like to know who was, if he gives me 1 point and explain why, or just appear his name, I accept it and will write him thanking him for his remarks, or just for his sincerity. Maybe it was a Chinese, new member, young, and do not like the Caribbean islands, maybe I made a mistake in history or some detail that is wrong, or a native from Dominica that hate that country because he was robbed, etc, but I do not accept that my report with 9 selected pictures, with the nine paragraphs full at 2000 and 1000 spaces, lots of info and history useful for the candidate to travel there, receives only 1 point in an anonym way, without know the reasons. I know that with the time, is more members vote and like my report and give me 4 or 5 points, this report will improve the position and maybe after several more votes will be in number 30 or 40. I am sure that if now I go to the best picture and give 1 point, this picture will go automatically to the number 100 too. Yes, there is somebody who is playing with us. Sorry, but until this system to rate is not open, I mean, knowing who votes, I do not intend to write any more report. This is my last, sorry for those who like my reports. However I do think your conclusion is a bit erratic. I am sure that you, like me, don't write for points but because you like recording your memories and to help and hopefully to inspire others. Irritating as it is when a clown either doesn't appreciate your work or plays some daft trick, I don't think it can be the right answer to deprive the rest of us for this reason. I am afraid you are handing the victory to the clown, if you react in this way. If he/she reads this, I imagine all my own reports will shortly take a plunge in the ratings. Surely, though, those who seem to like my reports - including yourself - will still read them. I look at all reports and give my own rating. Well this morning I was a little disappointed, because that fact that I explained has happened me many times. Anyway, soon I will receive my Russian visa with extensions to Kurils and Yakutia and will leave, so I do not have time for more reports. I hope that when I will be back the Globo management will have thought about it to improve the rating system; maybe by points, in that case to receive 1 point is better than nothing. And, yes, indeed, I write reports to help others by sharing my experiences and furnishing sometimes useful info, but still I do not find fair that some try to spoil your contribution in an anonym way. I also find it annoying when you have put the work into publishing your work and someone thinks it's funny (maybe) to post a low rating however I agree with Gloria and David don't let them win by not writing any more. Have you not noticed there seems to be a small "hard core" group of Globos that are constantly contributing, rating reports & communicating with each other? They and I too, would hate to not be able to read your reports. So ignore the idiots that come and go... The reports you write never fail to amaze me. Happy travels, Kerrie --- Where to next? Thanks for your letters. I will not let this or these childish members to interrupt our pleasure in writing and reading reports. I hope staff know who rates what and where and moderate the system properly. The same problem occurs with pictures too, and not only your contributions, but that of us other members too! If this cannot be solved then it is better, as you say, that anonymous ratings be discontinued. I too feel strongly about this point. At the sametime, while this may not address your concern, how lucky are we as users of this site, to have over 140 ***** reports! I am so flattered to be anywhere on that list given the quality that appears here virtually (no pun intended) everyday! The best judges of quality are the most active users. They consistently give you the marks you deserve. While it is slim consolation, those are the ratings that truly indicate your quality. There are many reports so beautiful! Your Tikal one is wonderful and I can see improvement since your first reports (I have read a lot of them when I have free time, About pictures I am ignorant and do not watch them, only the last ones appearing). Some of my favourites reports are Wojciech' and are in low position, which is a pity ( his Principe' is very hard reaching place, maybe that concept should count for rating). What I do not like is sometimes the unproper rating and the anonim way. If someone gives me 1 point but is identified, I am very grateful!
