mistybleu - Jan, 04 2008 02:01pm Hugh, a really nice shot, just curious why you call it the 'fantasy mansion'? horourke - Jan, 04 2008 04:01pm These houses were built for very wealthy owners who liked to imitate the crennalations of defensive buildings like the battlements and the high tower. The great panoramic windows are of course of no defensive effect giving the lie to the whole concept of a castle. Other great examples in Irelans are the Kylemore Abbey in Connemara and Ashford Casatle at Cong County Mayo. These two are still in perfect repair. Ducketts Grove on the other hand had anunfortunate history and was eventually burned. The last member of the Duckett family died a recluse in Dublin after protracted struggles concerning her mother's will.
