Carmel (corporate name Carmel-by-the-Sea) - United States, California Spanish missionaries founded 21 Missions in California, from San Diego to San Francisco. Carmel, near Monterey, is famous for sheltering the grave of Fray Junipero Serra. I spent the night in the basilica, close to Fray Junipero Serra tomb. It was a privilege. The Basilica is open 24 hours and some faithful people take care of it during the night. They allowed me to spend the night inside. Next day, while visiting the museum, I learnt that La Pérouse, Captain Cook, Malaspina and so many great navigators spent a night there, invited by Fray Jnipero Serra.
