In Ireland similar enclosures endure from the period when the landed aristocracy needed to defend their dwellings up to the end of the nineteenth century or a little later even. Is there a similar history of ethnic tensions in ths Armenian / Azeri enclave? Your commentary is a wonderful in-depth glimpse into this cauldron area of cultural meeting points. jorgesanchez - Jan, 05 2008 01:01pm Hugh, presently the two ethnic groups, Armenian and Azeri, live in different countries, there are not mixed. There are tensions between their Governments. When Armenia won the war against Azerbaijan and conquered Nagorno Karabakh, all the Azeri people left to Baku, and those Armenians living in Azerbaijan migrated to Armenia. Unfortunately they hate each other, their borders are closed (Armenia also has all the borders with Turkey locked).
