The ceremony was very long, and the church was full of people. Outside it was raining, so I watched the whole ceremony.

All Easern rite Christian Liturgies are in my experience very long. Also there is the sacred secrecy where much of the ceremony is performed out of sight of the attending Laity. In Ireland it is very unlikely that faithful Christians would attend such extended sessions of prayer.

Hugh, in Russia is still worse, because you have to stand up, no benches to sit down!
It was raining outside, I had to wait 5 hours for my boat to Ancona, Italy, and, anyway, I loved the ceremony.
