Thanks!

Thanks for the nice comments on my Arles report... I think it's worth a visit, and better than Avignon, which boasted only half a bridge to nowhere and a big, mostly empty, former Pope's residence. I haven't yet gotten to Ripley's, but it's on my list, and you'll be the first to know! :-)

cheers,

Liz

Happy Thursday!

The new slide show, Beaches, Palm Trees and Sunsets is my favorite so far on globo. I watched it over breakfast this morning. Nice start to a day.

On my S.A oltravels, sadly, I didn't hike the Inca trail (too much money), but have heard wonderful things about it. I did hike the mountain up to Machu Pichu and hike the various peaks around M.P. and the jungle there is heavenly. There are the most exquisite orchids the size of a thumbnail. The fog will suddenly descend upon the peaks and then you're on an island and you can't see 10 feet in front of you.

If you do go, you can save about $1000 or more by not booking through an agent back home but just going with an agency there. Travel agents (even in Cusco) speak English, and like as not offer the same tours (the Inca trail fully portered and catered is only about $200-$250).

Happy traveling!

Colourful!

I loved your pictures of Isla Mujeres, so colourful. And typical of Mexico and South America. Did you spend the Christmas holidays there?
We have just returned from Sri Lanka and have to get used to grey skies again.
A happy (belated) New Year to you.
regards

Hi there!

Thanks for the mail. Settling back in Uk has not been easy - miss Thai food especially!! However i got a job working with International students from Africa and Asia (Nepal, Tibet, India). The houses they live in were blessed by the Dalai Lama. This helps to keep my travel and international spirit alive! Maybe Nepal for next trip!!
Just invested in new laptop and hope to get scanner too soon to add many pics!!

Best Wishes

Hi.
Just wanted to say that your pic "Looking out from the Faro at Garrafon" is beautiful. I perused all of the new pics from the Isla Mujeres. Nice job.

I look forward to seeing more.

Happy New Years

Hi Vicki-Krista! I just read your new report... I think it's so great how you visit not just the well-known spots, but many out-of-the-way places, far from the beaten path. Do you have a method for finding these places, or is it just serendipity that brings you there? Either way, thanks for sharing by your inspiring example.

Warmest regards,

Liz

About cabo Verde

Hi!
Thank's for your visit.
Well, by the time i visited the prison it was in a pretty bad condition. Some parts of it were already being transformed in a museum (the Medical Center was the only one ready), and were ok, with photos, old documents and explanations in english and portuguese. The other 90% was in a complete mess, and that made it even more real, since some cells still had their pillows!
Cheers!
PB

PS: there is was a man that kept the place, and who guided us. I don't know if he's still there or even if he spaeks any language but portuguese...

Hi Vicky,

Thanks for signing my guestbook! If you ever have the chance to visit Greece then Kastraki and the monasteries are a must to see. The whole setting is superb and unique in the world.
You're always welcome to join on a safari in Africa. I leave for South Africa on the 31rd of december for new adventures in this dark continent. Keep your eye on www.come-along.nl !!

Hans.
