The overnighters are the better way to avoid the monotony of slash and burn agriculture. It is a lovely Spanish colonial city. This also places you near a couple of other Mayan ruins - Uaxactun, Yaxha and Piedras Negras. A couple of hours from Flores, crossing the border into Belize are Caracol and Xunantunich. We took flights out of Flores and the airport was small but appeared offer a lot of flights.
