Hi David,

it is true that the search just gives you 3 richmond in the world, while the upload engines shows about 50 Richmonds. Try San Francisco and you will get a few hundred San Franciscos in the world. It does not make any sense to list those cities all within the search, since you are searching for info. The point is that there is only info on the 3 Richmonds you get as a selection. If you start uploading a picture on Richmond Brazil (as an example) this Richmond will also apear within the search.

It always depends what the search is build for. The upload engine has to show all Richmonds in the world so you can pick one to upload. The destination search should only show the Richmonds which contain info on GLOBO. Everything else would not make much sense.

Hope this helps,

andy

Hi Andy

Your message has percolated through what passes for my brain. You're right, of course. Thanks for making the change to the 3 so quickly.

Cheers, David

I wanted to do a desination guide on Goa, one of the states in India. But can't do so as only cities are in the list, not states. Could Indian states be added to the list?

Good point Marianne, a states/provinces structure for all the nations already exists at GLOBO in other areas, would be a real challenge for Staff for the "search" function too, incorporation of cities and sub-links/referances would be needed then. I like the idea because I have often travelled to specific regions and not cities specifically, thinking of Bavaria, Berchtesgaderland, Batangas, Texas, England, Süd-Tirol, Mpumalanga, British Columbia...

Rudi

P.S: Staff thanks (see Page 2), the "search" does work for subjects aswell eg "postcards" and now ALSO for subjects that might have a place with the same name like "lion", even if the first results for milLION and triLION have to be jumped, one finds the information easily. Thank you so much and congratulations for making important changes possible!

States/Provinces will be added in the future. We have to get this service started first and see how that goes. Maybe you could write a few lines on some cities, places in Goa in the meantime?

Gloriajames has done some excellent destination guides in the last days and I think we fixed most of the problems.

There is also a place called Goa in India:

Hope this helps,

Hi Andy,

As far as I know there is no city / place called Goa. I followed the link and the picture shown is Calangute which is a town in North Goa.

Maybe be Ravi knows if Goa is also the name of a city or town.

Hi Andy

I'm very much impressed by the hughe amount of travel information Gloria and others already have put into the destination guide! Well done keep up your great work.

I read the great article about florence done by gloria. I just wanted to add some information... but she already has used up nearly all characteres so no more place to write something. I don't like deleting stuff she wrote. So the only possiblity to add content is by doing so with travel tips or reports.

As everybody has their own interests and things they like, it would be great to have more opinions available on places of greater interest. Let's say for instance popular places like London, New York, Paris, ... There is just so much to see and do so much you could write or point out that the small introduction is filled up quite quickly. So, if somebody writes a lot about things they like there is no more room for others...

Just some thoughts that came to my mind.

Martin

I read Gloria's destination guides too. they are great. It would be nice if more characters per destinations were allowed. i only wrote one so far but had to leave out quite a bit, as it did not fit the allotted number of words.

I dont think so! The staff must have considered this carefully. We must not forget the purpose of the destination guides. The introduction should be very brief and continuously refreshed and updated. I certainly would like my text updated by someone that has a better or newer opinion and information about the place, have also left always a bit of space for additions initially. I love Glorias entries too, rule: if it is perfect, dont change it! Regardless of that, I imagine that a lot of changes to location intros are done, good/bad/anyway, over the years. Just below the intro are referance links to further member contributions sorted by rating and links to further info like long reports, fotos, travel tips etc. If the introduction is too long the other links are not immediately shown! There is also the geographical forum and report writing to express ones self.

Rudi

P.S: For "Goa" entry above, a good overview of places in India, I recently used www.mapsofindia.com to find out were Ravi and Narain Karthikeyan stay

Hi everybody,

rangutan has a good point. The idea of the introduction text is to "introduce" the city. Sort of an apetizer. Because the real beauty on GLOBO are the reports which come just underneath. The intro to the destination guides should show a brief overview of the place, thats why every member can participate and add, change the text and make it better. The reports show a personal view of the place, plus they give you room to write loads. The travel tips give you the oportunity to publish more on one place, same as the pix.

The idea behind the dg's is, to be able to dig deaper into a certain destination. Lets say you want to learn about Luxor, you will find all info from globo members gathered there. This will grow over the future as more people start publishing on places and we continue to develp the particular part of GLOBO. What I personally like about them, is that the content is not so splitted up into thousands of member pages. As soon as a person likes what a member writes he will certanaly switch over to the member page to read more from that member.

Hope this helps,

andy
