Smiles! And here I thought that the added 'e' was the typical British spelling. It is always interesting to see the different spellings and dialects that Globo members have.

I agree, Russ. If Rudi had lived in America, I shouldn't have commented because I would have assumed it was just another of your barbarisms [haha.] Really, though, we can't have EU citizens using US English, you know!

Hey Andreas et al,

Running the risk of being flamed and considered to be "one of those frauds"... but: (JUST TO HAVE SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT)

I have serious doubts on this system.

I found some pics that were listed ***** but are copied from or based on existing and well published pics. I don't mind that ... but if the quality is not good I would like to demote those pictures or reflect that in the rating. I cannot do that now, since these 5* pics cannot be rated * or ** any more.

Besides that... is nt voting supposed to be a democratic proces? Majority rules etc? (at least, outside the US, that is... ;) )

I think the comments will help... it makes it possible to at least comment on pictures.

Again... just to bring some nuance to all the praise! I really value this new feature!

cheers,

Maurice

Hi Maurice,

Please report the above copy cases to staff. The idea is that stolen images are REMOVED, not rated lower!!!!! Remember that GLOBO does not have exclusive rights to pictures, so a member might display his/her pictures on another site too or even sell the rights. There are cases of theft too - a few months ago I sadly had to exposed a member to staff who was blatently copying from other sources on the net, one picture was heading towards becoming picture-of-th-month. This was easy to discover because the member didnt have "photography" or even "travel" listed as hobbies but one of the pictures was taken with a 300-500mm lens, others of her pets with a "Poloroid" snapshot camera! The pictures were removed voluntarily by the member after staff intervened.

I think the rating system is working very well and BETTER now. Average ratings are much more stable now. The system IS democratic! Some members were running 2nd accounts but Staff has a "bot" to keep that under control.

I have not been able to rate about 10 pictures of about 400 as I wished but did a star more or less. There were two ****pictures we had a problem with because the first member that came across them rated * but after the average went above 2** members could rate accordingly and they are now have their correct places above 4****

Rudi

P.S: I still think the wording to the over/under rating error is too harsh. It should rather mean "please try again" than accuse the member of "fraud", mistakes do happen!

well i agree with Rudi that those pictures which are already published and stolen should be removed from the Globo and no need of taking extra pain in re rating

I'm amazed at the idea of people running second accounts. It sounds so much work for so little.

I agree with removal of known pilferings but I also agree that the tone is important. Even if pilfering, some people's main motive may well be to share something beautiful with others. I was eager to put up some postcards of the wonderful murals at the Pantheon of the kings of Léon, where photography is rightly banned. Andy persuaded me that, even if I could get permission, it would open a door to trouble so I didn't go further but I can well understand that someone uploading a picture of this sort might have the benefit of others as a prime objective.

Coming back to second accounts - it's mad but it's also rather nasty. A really harsh warning for this followed by instant expulsion for a second such offence wouldn't seem OTT to me.

Sorry,

I realise I was not clear enough on this stolen pic issue:

It is not about pics that are stolen... but rather the "recycling of ideas"

The way I rank is that I only give 5* to the best pics. They need to be original and good. I found a pic (will try to find it again) that was a pic of an idea posted on globo and internet lots and lots of times... but was a real poor version of it. I wanted to rate it 2*

I report stolen pics off course.

Cheers,

Maurice

well it takes a lot of time to upload the pictures on the site ,atleast for me,i have to shoot it ,then compress the file so that it is under 500kb and then upload with all names ,dates ,and comments .

so i think who ever copy and paste the pictures from other site is just taking short cut way to save the work ,which is wrong .

Ravi,

Taking the work of someone else and presenting it as your own is not only wrong in a moral sense, it is wrong in the legal aspect as well. When you take a photo it is your property. If someone uses that property without your permission or without your knowledge it is the same as the theft of any other property. That is why it is not acceptable for anyone to post such photos.

I fully agree with every one specially Russ,we hope all the members post their own work and if at all they are posting some one else work ,should atleast mention that is pictures is taken by so and so .

But i dont think there is a need of stealing some one else work at all there .
