I too, fully agree with both of you...

but that was nog exactly my point.

I was looking at it from the angle of intellectual property:

Lots of pics of similar objects look rather similar. Some of the newer ones are better some a lot worse than the first posts.

Now; if I rate pictures, and I find the idea of a photo is copied, in stead of rating it 5* I rate it lower. If the shot is bad, composition is no good, light or depth are not ok (which in my view happens a lot) I give it a low rating. 2* and 3* are not uncommon then.

I cannot rate that way any more, due to the system change.

Cheers,

Maurice

btw: see the taxonomy topic. I would like your response to that. It could make Globo that much better!

... hey, look at this, to illustrate my point of view:

http://www.globosapiens.net/spaceout/picture-jaguar-17941.html

It's a jaguar. Great holiday snapshot. BUT:

- I see the chainlink fence.

- I see poor composition (half a paw...)

- I see a standard animal pic (I didnt search for a better version of jaguarpics)

AND it's rated 5* DUH!

We should rather move this discussion to

www.globosapiens.net/topic-how-to-rate-pictures_34_1282_0000.html

I will meantion 10 reasons why I travel there and therefore also why I rate TRAVEL pictures how I do!

The "jaguar" picture above has nothing to do with fraud at all and I am now very pleased that it is partially protected from being rated only *, it is down now to 4* (4.11111) now I see, perhaps to the delight of our landscape and architecture fans.

Hi Maurice

An intersting point you brought up. Copying of ideas... but hey thats what we all do. We go to places where others have been and pictures have been taken so we can only do similar shots like everybody else. That also is my point whenever I say try to get something different from the shots that everybody else takes.

So, in your eyes a shot from the eiffel tower needs far more to get 4 or even 5 stars, than a shot from a place that you never have seen?

But still some ideas could be recycled in other places. I doesn't really have to do with showing the exact same view but also the same style of picture...

I still think this rating fraud system is quite ok and helps us to have fairer votes.

Have a great day

Martin
