Southern Hospitality, or Just Jerkwater USA?

Atlanta is a city made famous by the American Civil War. After it was burned (1864), the city was rebuilt and became the capital of the state of Georgia. The area surrounding Atlanta has now grown to almost 4 million people. Traditionally, the city of Atlanta was known for its hospitality to visitors. Now, the people are rude, erudite, and pretentious. Depending on the location within Atlanta, one can see modern high-rise buildings, or some of the worst slums in the world. Crime is rampant in all but a few of the areas of the city. My biggest complaint against Atlanta is that events are presented to the public and are characterized as being world-class. These events are often presented with less than star attributes.

Favourite spots:
Fado - an Irish pub The Fox Theater - one of the few 'real' aspects of the city Phillip's Arena - site of some very nice concerts

What's really great:
Atlanta has a large number of events. That is positive. However, these events are not always the best quality that is available. One thing that should NOT be done is to support the Atlanta Braves baseball team. This organization is full of pretentious executives that treat the fans of the team as if they were criminals.

Sights:
Stone Mountain - a large granite outcropping
The Coca-Cola factory
Olympic Park

Hangouts:
Fado - An excellent Irish pub

Atlanta Biergarten - A microbrewery that offers some German beers

Restaurants:
Contigo Peru - a Peruvian restaurant that has two locations and serves authentic Peruvian meals
The Varsity - One of the original drive-in restaurants from the 1950's
Alameda - A restaurant that specializes in Venezuelan food (and other South American specialties)

I can't believe Atlanta still has a drive in restaurant!!! The Olympic Park was interesting. I wish the 'Braves' would change the name, (I don't care)
and then they would get fans again.

I definitely agree with your definition of people in Atlanta as being rude, erudite and pretentious!
