Beautiful Auckland

I went to Auckland 2 times, in Summer and again in Winter. Flying from Bangkok (my hometown) take about 8 hours to Sydney (change plane) and connect another 3 hours flight to Auckland. Just this year Thai Airways offer direct flight to Auckland

Auckland,New Zealand's largest city, situated on the North Island of New Zealand. Auckland lies next to the Hauraki Gulf and Auckland contains many bays and harbours, including Auckland's Waitemata and Viaduct Harbours - trendy waterfront areas located next to Auckland city centre, famous for playing a part in the America's Cup yachting regatta. Auckland is known for its popular sailing, earning Auckland the nickname 'City of Sails'. There are more than 100 beaches within an hours' drive from central Auckland. If talking about Auckland itself, I would suggest to saty here 2-3 days to explore the city. To me I hired a car and drove around with my husband. Driving in New Zealand is easy and cheap. No worry about parking at all. Most tourist sites offer free parking but with limited time such as 15, 30 , 60, 90 minutes so you just pick the time you want and park in the right place.

Favourite spots:
Sightseeing in Auckland is wonderful and below are my favourite place : 1. Mt Eden - You can see view of the city 2. The Sky Tower - one of the city's most recognisable landmarks and the tallest building in New Zealand, built in 1997 3. Auckland Harbour Bridge - connecting the city to the North Shore, crossing Waitemata Harbour 4. Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World- Experience the snowcat ride where you will see King and Gentoo penguins. 5. Devonport - located at the end of the North Shore Peninsula; West of Auckland offer dramatic landscape, with many coastal areas, popular surfing conditions and more than 100 walking / tramping trails 5. Shoping in the city, stroll along Hobson Street, Princes Street, Quay Street and Queens Street

What's really great:
I love Devonport where is historic seaside village, only 10 minutes by ferry (half hourly service) and 15 minutes by car to Auckland City centre. Stroll along the seafront. There are wide range of restaurants, cafes, beaches, art galleries, shopping. Enjoy the spectacular views of the city and gulf from North Head and Mt Victoria. .

Accommodations:
Lucky I have friend in Auckland where his place is only 10 minutes out of city centre.

Actually the city itself is quite small and you can find place to stay easily.

The most popular hotels options in Auckland can be found in Mount Eden, Parnell, and the Devonport districts, business district and shopping area likeHobson Street, Princes Street, Quay Street and Queens Street. There are many mid-range hotels and luxury accommodation options. Budget hotels, hostels and guest houses are widespread in Auckland and are particularly concentrated around Auckland city centre and in the inner suburbs of Auckland.

Once I get to stay in the hotel, Rydges- 4 stars hotel located in the city It costs about 120 NZD. Stay in the city, park the car at the hotel and walk around. It won't take much time to explore as the city is quite small.

You can try www.wotif.com to check hotel price. I think they offer reasonable price esp last minute booking. I booked hotels through them many times.

Nightlife:
I don't see many things to do at night. Actually I'm quite early to bed and because we need to get up early, travel to the next destination in the next day.

Anyway, you can go to Skycity - see view of Auckland at night (328 Metres)zt sky tower or try your luck at Skycity casino where opens 24x7 Enjoy !!

Restaurants:
Both times I visted Auckland, I love to eat at foodcourt in the city. So sorry can not remember the name and direction. Just know that it's on Prince Street and you just walk into the building. If you ask people around there, they maybe know. There are many food options especially Asian food like Thai, Japanese and Korean. Cheap and yummy.

Apart from this I eat at Subways

There's some very good information here but it's a bit short on sections and, of course, photos are needed fpr top grades. If you plan to make additions, hold back on publication because nobody can rate more than once.
