Many have raved about the beauty of South Africa, its wildlife and natural landscape. I was personally captivated by its magnificence and grandeur! However, the places that left me profoundly affected and thoughtful were the townships and Robben Island.
Favourite spots:
So many places in South Africa offer a liberating experience! I paraglided in tandem with a professional paraglider. Leaped off Lion's Head next to Table Mountain. The view was riveting! Clifton Beach was laced with enchanting waves breaking along the shores. Muizenburg is also a sight to behold as you drive towards Simontown.
What's really great:
Langa and Guguletu townships offered me the chance to know the local Africans who were cast away from District Six in the tough times of apartheid. I think I am still unwinding from what I have learnt from them. It is such a vast and wondrous country, yet so many of Africa's people cannot enjoy the lush beauty and abundance of their land.
Sights:
Table Mountain, Lion's Head paragliding, Clifton, Boulder's Beach at Simontown where the Penguins are, Muizenburg, townships
Accommodations:
Protea Kruger Gate Hotel
Park Plaza Sandton at J'burg and City Lodge in Cape Town
Nightlife:
Bossa Nova!
Hangouts:
Township pubcrawls. They are quite groovy and fun!
Restaurants:
At the Waterfront, we ate pretty well in a seafood joint that offers abalone soup. hmmm...
