Is This the Chattanooga Choo-Choo?

One of the most overlooked places to visit in the Southern United States is Chattanooga, Tennessee. This town is nestled in a valley of the Smokey Mountains along the Tennessee River. There are many exciting activities in the city, along with many historical venues that relate to the American Civil War. When I lived in Georgia, I would visit Chattanooga frequently for entertainment.

Favourite spots:
Lookout Mountain is located along the southern part of Chattanooga. A very famous battle was fought on the mountain in 1863 (or 1864). This was a major battle during the Civil War. Now, there is a memorial to the battle that visitors can tour. Also on the mountain are two very famous tourist spots, Rock City and Ruby Falls. Both of these sites claim to have more than 1 million visitors annually.

What's really great:
I enjoyed many aspects of my time in Chattanooga. Ruby Falls is amazing to see. It is located inside a cave. One can see a large number of rock formations in the cave, then the waterfalls is magnificent. Many people enjoy visiting the new Tennessee Aquarium in downtown Chattanooga. There are many large exhibits in the aquarium, and thee change on a seasonal basis. I really enjoyed watching the live theater productions at The Little Theater in the city. Local talent was used in most of the productions, but the quality of the theater was outstanding.

Sights:
Lookout Mountain
Rock City
Ruby Falls
Chattanooga Choo Choo

Accommodations:
Holiday Inn

Nightlife:
Chattanooga Billiard Club and Cigar Center

Hangouts:
Big River Bar and Grill - a microbrewery, restaurant, and game room
Durty Nelley's - an Irish pub. There is live music on the weekends.

Restaurants:
Acropolis - a Greek restaurant
El Meson - a wonderful Mexican restaurant. I especially enjoyed the Sunday champagbe brunch.
