There is a bicycle track along the swedish west coast called Cykelspåret (The Bicycle Track), it is possible to go from Helsingborg in the south and end in Stromstad in the north. The track from Varberg and up north is also a part of a bigger track called The North Sea Cycle Route. This track is going further into Norway, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, total of 6000 km. I have only cycled a short part of this, from Gothenburg to Kungshamn about 190 km (and back again). There are signs marking out the track, but sometimes they are hard to find, so I did go wrong one or two times (luckily for me I did notices it in time). In the cities and in villages the track is on special bicycle roads. On the country side it mostly goes along small roads with little traffic. This makes the track longer then necessary but on the other hand more beautiful and you do not need to watch out for cars all the time.

After Gothenburg comes Kungalv whith a castle from the 14th century. Following the road along the river Gota Alv, turning left to Jorlanda. After jorlanda the track goes along a big road with lot of traffic. There is a other road but it is hard to find. From the bridge between Stenungsund and Tjorn there is an magnificent view. On Tjorn the track follows small roads, passing typical houses for this part of Sweden. Orust, on small roads in the woods for a large part. Near Ellos more traffic will appear. To the main land there is a ferry from Orust to Malo and from there on bridges, first to Flato and then main land. On Flato you will pass merchant Flink. Following the road to the old fishermen village Fiskebackskil. Ferry to Lysekil. From here the track goes zig-zag over road 162. The track goes along Abyfjord and turns after Nordens Ark towards Tossene and Bovallstrand. The road to Kungshamn has a lot of traffic in the summer time, so take care!

Crossing the bridge between Stenungsund and Tjorn was something special for me. The track on Tjorn is one of my favorites, passing the typical houses on the country side. The fishermen village Fiskebeackil is small but really nice. Have an ice-cream and go for a walk through the village before taking the ferry over to Lysekil. On my way back to Gothenburg I took the straight way on the land (about 150 km), no islands, over Uddevalla, Ljungskile and Gothenburg. This was shorter then expected and much faster, but not even close to being as nice as the marked route.
