Swedish trips.

I've been to Sweden in several occasions since early 1990's and Stockholm is one of the places visited. The latest visit so far is from 2007 and there's more to come in the areas of Sweden I've not yet seen.

I was in Stockholm about a decade ago and mainly visited the obvious tourist spots like downtown shopping area (Drottningsgatan as I recall), the tourist buss ride and the royal castle as well as the zoo. The shopping area people spoke good English (so my learned Swedish was useless, especially since they avoided speaking it anyway) and the prices were not too expensive but not exactly cheap. The bus ride showed what, I guess, was the most important tourist infested areas and some port area which was full of men wearing miniskirts and such drag things. Nothing special to say about the castle. I've also visited several other locations such as Karlstad, Skoghall, Malmö, Skellefteå and so on. I've written a bit on my Traveler Willem blog (found via google, if you're interested).

Favourite spots:
Basically, I've two favorite spots. The other one is, I'm sad to say, the shopping area downtown... and I'm not the shopping kind. The other one is larger and contains the whole 'old' downtown area and other old buildings around there. Particularly it's a nice place during sunny days of summer having the sea there too and everything.

What's really great:
The summertime atmosphere in the old buildings area and the seaside. By overall it's quite okay place and probably the third most interesting capital of Northern Europe.

Sights:
The shopping street, zoo, the royal castle, some museums and the 'old city'. The place is best seen during summer.

Accommodations:
I lived in a flat that was owned by a friend of a relative in Stockholm and in the Värmland province I've lived with relatives so all I can say is that free living saves a lot of money for other touristy purposes. Try couchsurfing if you don't have relatives or friends there.
