Tulum, Mexico

Tulum is a magical place that one must visit to truly appreciate. It is a place of beauty, love, tranquility and pure paradise. Tulum has the power to capture the heart of anyone lucky enough to visit. It is on the top of my list of places I've been.

Walking onto the beach in paradise.
Walking onto the beach in paradise.
Tulum is situated on the Caribbean Coast of Mexico, two hours south of the bustle of Cancun. Famous for the Mayan Ruins that perch high above the sea on a cliff, Tulum is becoming a hotspot for backpackers and vacationers alike. The brilliant blue water can almost bring a tear to the eye. The sand is so white and so fine you feel as if Johnson and Johnson dumped baby powder along the shores. People have not a care in the world as they stroll down the often secluded beach, most of the time wearing nothing at all... just a smile.

The town is small and quiet with nice restaurants lining the main road, a grocery store, internet shop, loads of artisan shops and some bars. There are also a few hotels and a hostel in town.

Lodging in Tulum mainly takes place on the beach. There are cabanas lining the beach as far as the eye can see. Sadly, tourism is spreading south like a brushfire and some luxury hotels are going up. However, walking the beach at night is a romantic date between you, the dark, the sea and the moon.

There is quite a bit of things to do there but I recommend relaxing. Sitting on the beach is one of the most peaceful things in the world, especially with the beauty that surrounds this one.

There are many places in Tulum to enjoy. The most obvious is the beach. The crystal clear and incredibly calm waters of the Caribbean welcome snorkeling and diving. The beach is usually quite quiet, especially in comparison to Playa Del Carmen and Cancun, which are both situated north of Tulum.

The Mayan Ruins are another spot that must be visited while in Tulum. They tend to be a bit crowded but there is an escape from the ruins as well. A large, wooden staircase snakes down the side of the cliff to a tiny pristine beach.

Cenotes are another thing to check out while in Tulum. Basically an underwater cave, cenotes draw loads of tourists who take a quick snorkel, scuba or swim in the fresh water.

What's really great:
The energy in the air in Tulum is special. I lived in Playa Del Carmen which is just 45 minutes north so I have been to Tulum many times. There is magic in the air. You feel as if the real world doesn't exist while passing the day on the beach in Tulum. People roam the white sands with not a care in the world. It is the sexiest and most passionate beach I have ever set foot on.

I agree with everything you are saying about Tulum. I spent a week there last May and it was fantastic.
