cancun is a great place to visit, be you a member of the shinny or the unshinny community. hey, i can't wait to go back, and from what i understand, my very shinny hair dresser also goes back every year.... anyhow, carrying on... the beaches are the most beautiful i've ever seen, and believe that i've seen many. the mexicans of the area are friendly and will imediately land you a hand with whatever dilema you might face during your stay.

Favourite spots:
isla mujeres is most definitely my favorite part of town. do a walk around the island starting from playa norte and let yourself relax with a nice glass of mango juice at the little restaurant called i don't know what... then, guide yourself to garrafon and meet with the friend bus driver jose. he's a great man and will tell you all about the island. at night, head down to the cancun hard rock cafe and listen to los paranoias. they might be a cover band but they play with heart.

What's really great:
headed over to roots, downtown. jazz to one and jazz to all! spent time at the giant rock behind a cafe one night. it was a great place to just lie down and listen to the waves crash. don't fall down some might say!

Sights:
tulum, tulum.
excaret-that's where you can swim with the dolphins. anyone watched the amazing race??!

Accommodations:
there are these little huts in isla mujeres that get rented out to the backpackers. i haven't been, but i'd like to. in town there are thousands of great hotels to stay in, but hey, with a place that beautiful, you could camp out at the beach and still feel as if you were in a 5 star hotel!

Nightlife:
hard rock cafe.
coco bongo is crazy extravagant. not my bag, but i'm sure, the purse for many others

Hangouts:
hard rock cafe, roots

Restaurants:
the little restaurant right across the ferry entrance at isla mujeres. it's tiny, cozy, and the owner is freaking friendlyyyyyyyyy!!!!
periscos. eeks!!! be ware of.......everything?!!! tasty cerviches are sold in this venue

Good report with lots of detail. I have been to Cancun, but never got to Islas Mujeres. We stayed at a all inclusive hotel and this makes it tough to leave the facility because then you have to pay for food.
