Oviedo, capital of the state of Asturias in the North of Spain, is a pleasant university town of 200,000 with a neat historical center (including a historically important cathedral), tons of cafés and restaurants, and an awesome nightlife. The city is surrounded by mountains and beautiful green nature, and lies 30 km off the Atlantic coast.
Favourite spots:
Casco Antiguo (old town with its wonderful architecture, numerous relaxing cafés to hang out, and a vibrating nightlife) - Parque San Franzisco - Monte Narranco (the closest mountain which offers a great view and two praeromanic churches)
What's really great:
The people (they are friendly and fun) - The Sidra (cidre) which is a very special Asturian beverage that is served in a very unique way...
Sights:
The Cathedral and the surrounding old town - the two praeromanic churches half way up Monte Narranco
Accommodations:
There are a lot of hotels and cheap hostales in the city center.
Nightlife:
People rather go to the bares to dance, where entry is for free. There are a few discos too.
Hangouts:
All over the old town! Most of them play Spanish music and people dance.
Restaurants:
You gotta try one of the numerous Sidrerías! Those are special restaurants where the famous Sidra is served along with delicious local specialties, including a lot of sea food.
