Iceland August 2009

Very nice country to visit - different then other ones.

We have travelled 17 days over all Iceland. We traversed interior 3 times. We walked on the largest glacier of Europe. We saw a lot of watherfalls and geysirs.

How to get there?

It seems that the cheapest way to get to Iceland is by plane. We took a flight form Trondheim throught Oslo and we paid 2700 NOK (about 320 EUR) for round trip. I talked with many people who came by ferry and they paid much more then we did.

Level of prices:

After begening of financial crisis in September 2008, the currency ISK falled down by about 60%. This make Iceland a little bit cheaper then during previous years.

However, this country is steal quite expensive - I would say about 70% of norwegian prices.

Transport:

It is good idea to travell by bus around the Iceland. You can buy bus ticket up to 15 days, what we did, and travel within it over almost all country.

There are buses that are able to go throught ugly roads and interior. If you rent an ordinary car you could not do that.

Favourite spots:
Road throught interior
Road throught interior
* Blue Lagun - nearby Rejkjavik

* Gullfoss and gejzers nearby

* Travers of interior by bus - there are 2 ways open only in summer

* Whale watching in Husavik in norther Iceland

* Lake Myvatn - called small Iceland, you can rent bicycle in Reykjahilo for about 12 EUR per day and cycle around that lake

* Aksja

* Trekk around the largest glacier of Europe

* 4 days trekk in Southern Iceland

* Trekk around the highets pick of Iceland

What's really great:
Gullfoss

The largest glacier of Europe trekk from northern side. Wondrefull watherfalls, and gejzers.

Accommodations:

Reykjavik Campsite - around 6 EUR per person

Pavi hostel - around 68 EUR for dobble room (2 persons)

Good information and nice pics, but why not include some of your personal experiences and impressions next time? I know, English isn't your first language and it can be quite daunting, but it would be nice to hear about your adventures.
