Rhodes or Rodos as it is pronounced in Greek is an island in the Dodecanese Islands. It is a place that has a bit of everything- history, beaches, good food/drink and fun all rolled into one.
Rhodes
Rhodes is a greek island though really only a swim away from Turkey. In fact from the North East coast you can actually see Turkey across the sea. Of course like most Greek islands Rhodes has its tourist traps which personally i would avoid unless utterly impossible. As far as natural landmarks there are plenty of beaches along the coasts of the island with many being unmarked on the road and it is by sheer luck to find some as they are situated off dirt roads where one would not normally think to go. Some of the best food can be found right on the beach at one of the many kiosks. Generally however the best way to see the island is to hire a car and go literally wherever you wish
Favourite spots:
The beautiful beaches of Rhodes
Personal favourite spots were Charaki Beach which is one of the few yellow sand beaches you will find on the island. Along with that in the old part of Rhodes city is a little kiosk called Mike's Place which has the nicest icecream imaginable as they put chocolate suace and honey on top and i dont know it was just beautiful. Another cool spot is the town just south of the main city of Rhodes where there are clubs and pubs galore. The place to spend your nights partying til dawn.
What's really great:
Generally the weather was gorgeous and that was in early October. What was good was simply to find a deck chair on a beach. It didnt matter really where and simply enjoy the sun and the sound of the waves. Of course this must be done also while sipping a good coffee Frappe which i am yet to find exactly the same outside Greece yet. On Rhodes life is simple which makes this perfect for unwinding and those who love the sea such as myself can snorkel, swim and do many other water activities which is what i found great.
Sights:
Palace of the Grand Masters
Rhodes city itself contains a beautiful fortress and many other relics left from the Crusade days. Here and Lindos are the places to see and find out about the history of the island. The entire east coast is scattered with beaches and it really is just a matter of pulling up and checking the place out. My personal favourite is Charaki beach due to it having yellow sand unlike many of the other beaches. Inland from Afandou which is located also on the East coast can be found a butterfly house which is also really nice to see.
Nightlife:
For clubs and pubs go to Faliraki as this is the town that has all of it. During the day this town looks quite sleepy but at night on Rhodes this is the place to be. Check it out for yourself. For a scene similar to that of Mykonos though check out the nightlife in Lindos which also contains many bars and clubs.
Hangouts:

Other recommendations:
Mandraki Harbour
Sound and light displays take place on Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes from May til the end of October three times each night and with each taking place in a different language however English and German are everyday. There is also the aquarium to see at the northernmost point of the island as well as market and store shopping in the city.
Nina,
Although this was nicely written it lacks some useful information. I'll be in Rhodos next weekj and need some more prectical info. Thanks for writing this report and especially the photos.
I also like this island very much and couldn't have written it better. Lindos is a must visit place, spend the day there and dine out in the evening in one of the excellent roof top restaurants
