Beach and Peace

We have recently returned from our second trip to this wonderful country. This time I was fortunate to have my beautiful wife and daughter along for the adventure. This is a quiet little community at the end of the paved road.

Dive Trip returning
Samara is along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. A small town of less than 1000 people incuding the tourists left us with tons of room to find the peace of sunbathing and playing in the surf. I found the place by an acquaintance who owns property in the neighboring town and Googloing for the rest. Our trip was long and painful leaving from our little Ice Box tucked in the middle of the Colorado Rockies. 48 hours, 4 different flights, 2 B&B's and a 90°F temp difference later we approached a landing strip cut into the jungle next to the beach of Carrillo, CR aboard a single engine 10 seater. Our Airport consisted of a Rancho which doubled as a bus stop. We were greated by our hostess and taken the 4 miles along the coast to their place on the beach. Samara is a small beach of 3 miles long. At its edge is the town of 1 and 2 story buildings whose roofs rarely pierce the canopy of the jungle. Samara felt like home but the opposite. Like all the people I have met in my visits to this county

Favourite spots:
Our most favorite spot seemed to be the hammock just under a palm tree if it was to be based on time spent in one place. Along the beach are many little spots to get a bite or a beer. I think the other special spot was the last platform on Wing Nuts Canopy Tour where we ate and took in the view atop a Guancaste tree.

What's really great:
There is so much that was special. Number 1 was having a beautiful wife to travel with and a teen daughter that gets to see how another part of the world lives outside our isolated american community. However , our hosts made our visit to Samara the best and they will always be in our hearts. The sunsets and sunrises were always beatiful from our spot. I was fortunate to be taken out to view the birds in the swamp at dawn and the howler monkeys in the trees. I was able to watch the Jesus Christ Lizards walk across water. I down ed more beer with my daughter than we ever have done before. My wife and myself beach combed for hours at a slow enough pace we forgot about time. The beach never had over 100 people on it in the three miles of its. shores which provided us with that tranquility we desparately yearned for .

Accommodations:
Las Divaz B&B

Restaurants:
Some definitely are catered to the few Americans like Shake Joes. This is a memorable spot due to the lounge like atmosphere. The prices were a little high but the atmosphere made up for it. There is a little place at the west end of the beach and up a dirt road about 1/8 of a mile which served Italian food that would make an Itallian cry. In town is Cafe Parisio next to the Liquor Store . Our experience consisted of fresh grilled lobster, Pina Coladas served in frozen pineapples, amazing flan.
