at 6:30 am we arrived in the main square of the town and bought bus tickets from ban lung to the capital city of phnom penh . the ticket was 3400 riels per person.
journey started at about 7 am on a jumpy dirt road until 12 am when we arrived on sealed road at karatie. but after honey moon for 45 min. on better road , we started traveling on dirt road for one hour.
it was v.tiring journey which ended at about 6:15 pm in capital city just before sunset.
we arrived in a hotel GOLDEN TOUR EIFFEL HOTEL by tuk tuk ( one us$) and succeeded in getting a suit room for two persons in just 15 us$. room was spacious nice and clean with cable tv, and air con. with a separate sitting room and a kitchen with all kitchen articles.
bathroom was clean with european wc. and cold and hot water.
laundry was free.
we used internet 2000 riels per hour and then slept.

Aug 20, 2009 06:00 PM third day in cambodia

the same motos (motorbikes with drivers) were again hired for today and we started our tour at 6:30 am . by first going to the market to buy masks b/c the whole track and the town itself is full of dust and just in minutes we are covered with a thick layer of red earth.
visited the village kateung for elephant ride. it was 15 us$ per ride for two persons. if one person wants to ride individually then 10 us$ per ride. it was not impressive. though it was one hour ride but the elephants remain enjoying their breakfast of banmboo trees most of the time and very short tour in so called jungle.
anyhow , we started journey to the village voen sai for one and half hour and took a lunch of lok lak by 5 us$ per person with complementary tea and hired a boat to the village kachon . it was 45 min. journey to the village and we visited the cemetries there . on each grave there are two wooden guards right one male and left female, with some rice pots, and other daily use articles spread on the grave. even we saw some cigarettes placed on the grave b/c the dead was fond of cigarettes.
we also attended a funeral party. the people were drunk with the rice wine,
after one hour we returned by the same boat and visited a chinese village on the way. But unfortunately I lost my still camera in the village within two minutes while changing the dvd in my video camera.
I offered us4 100 and then even us$ 200 for the return of the camera but no one was ready. I just wanted to taked my memory stick b/c it was full of my precious photographs of the laos and cambodia tour.
anyhow we returned to the village voen sai and paid 15 us$ to the boat ( per roundtrip).
we started our journey back to ban lung in dark. the road was worst. and my friend got slight injury on his knee when motorbike slipped on the muddy path.
after 2 hours we were back to the town for sleeping.

Aug 19, 2009 06:00 PM second day in cambodia

we ( me and my friend) started the day by hiring two motos (10 dollars per day --fuel included), first we visited ratanakiri airport of ban lung . it was without a runway. and the people were playing there. it was told that the airport is non-functioning. then we visited the waterfalls . each waterfall entry was 2000 riels /person. v.nice water falls. the chaa ong waterfall is fit for taking a shower .very beautiful scenery .
then we enjoyed our lunch at adam's restaurant with reasonable rates.
after lunch in the afternoon we visited a beautiful lake boeng yeak lam lake,5 km east of ban lung . two wooden piers at the water'"s edge.clear water for swimming or dipping . tubes are also available for rent.
at last we returned to the town for sleeping.

Aug 18, 2009 06:00 PM entry in cambodia from laos

I started traveling from don kho by boat at about 6:30 am by paying 20000 kips per boat, i was with my friend, and two other guests from france. therefore it was 5000 kips per person . after 5 min. we arrived in ban saphai and by getting to a local jamboo, we arrived at pakse city centre after 45 min. from some local travel agent we bought bus ticket from pakse to stung treng of cambodia by paying 190000 per person.
we started travel at 8 am and till the cambodain border 3 minivans were changed. then we stamped exit from laos immigration and they took one us$ per person for just exit stamp.
after entering in the cambodia we were asked by a so called doctor to pay one us$ per person for giving fittness certificate.
I filled visa form for visa on arrival but the immigration officer demanded 200 us$ as bribe, otherwise he asked me to return to viantiane for visa. it was very difficult task and i was with my friend who was already given visa, therefore i gave a bribe of 100 dollars including 20 dollars as visa fee.
after boarding fourth car we arrived in stung treng at 2:30 pm/
a travel agent in minivan asked us to pay 10 dollars ticket from stung treng to ban lung. we paid b/c he said that at 3 pm bus will depart and otherwise you will have to stay in stung treng.
later we came to know that actual ticket from stung treng is only 5 dollars maximum per person.
the bus departed at 4 pm.
anyhow, the road is not sealed and worst condition. after jumps and slow speed, we arrived at ban treng at 8:30 pm.
so the time taken was 4.5 hours.
as soon as we got out of the bus, there was an a large group of boys and a couple of girls carrying placards of some hotels and guest houses. everyone was advocating his hotel at a time.
we could listen to anyone.
we picked a very nice hotel , lakeside champng lok hotel by only 4 dollars per twin room. room was very spacious with cable tv, fan, nice and clean bathroom with hot ,cold water.
there was also very good resturant for comparatively cheaper rates. food was nice.

Aug 17, 2009 06:00 PM second day in pakse

i visited a small island near pakse, named don kho.
first i went to minivan station by paying tuk tuk 5000 kips and then by minivan or jamboo i arrived a village ban saphai in 40 min. There i boarded a boat by paying 20000 kips per boat( we were 2 persons , so 10000 each).
after 5 min. we crossed the mekong river and landed at don kho. it was a small but v.beautiful island and after crossing the buddist temple or wat we were offered a homestay by a guide . we stayed in home No.14 . the rate was 30000 kips per person.
there we felt relaxed and had a lunch. each meal was 20000 per person. while we decided to hire the guide( by paying 50000 kips per tour) , we started a tour around. In each house silk was being woven. very nice silk salongs. we bought some by 40000 each and the borders of salongs by 20000 kips. also I bought a cotton peice by 30000 kips.
we intermingled with the locals though they couldn't speak english but communication was through guide , MIK.
at 6 pm we attended a worship gathering by monks for about 50 min. we also learnt some basics of bhuddism religion.
after this an english class started outside the wat. all the children of the village attended the class. we also participated and taught some of the english sentences.
we were happy to be in locals.
it was very nice experience b/c the place was not very touristy though we found two french tourists also.
the village retains its rural colour v.well/.
