Hi Jorge,
thats a very kind comment for this picture - thanks a lot! Well, we had a very relaxed afternoon when we stood there on the rock; two cold beer in our backpack and enough time to enjoy it. I also took a picture of my wife (and the beer), but I decided to publigh the photo without them ;-) ...
Cheers, Christian

Thanks for your comments on my three reports. I'm sorry you had so little time there as I know you would have loved it.
Perhaps another time?
Cheers

Hotels vs Backpackers
Posted: 2008-07-26 02:43 PM
Hi Jorge,
I am surprised to read that you thought I was normally staying at hotels rather than backpackers'. When I go to Africa, I try to stay in backpackers' places, although they appear to be plentiful only in southern Africa. In central parts of the continent, there was only one in Kampala. I did not find East Africa very well geared for backpackers - in Kenya's national parks there were not heard of, in Tanzania ever fewer, Somaliland... well, nothing like that there. Madagascar was alright, although their hotels were more like hostels anyway. In West Africa, it seems that there are no backpackers at tall, apart from the Dogon country, where one stays with the chiefs or families.
South America does not appear to do backpackers accommodations, with the exception of Chile perhaps. But I only visited Argentina, Chile and Peru, so I guess I should not have an opinion.
Asia is better. Only slightly. Europe is very poor, except Island... When on holiday I always prefer backpackers'...
