Goreme - Cavusin Castle's by siffer

Goreme - Turkey, Nev¶ehir A closeup of the castle shows it is just a massive fairy chimney. The overhanging edge of hard basalt on top sets on the softer tufo which has gradually fallen away - note the large fragments at the base. At one time entrance was only at the foot of the complex with a totally enclosed spiral roadway reaching to the top and allowing entrance to the individual residences and churches. Today the enclosing tufo has fallen away opening the rooms of the houses to the exterior elements.
