What an inspiration Budapest turned out to be. Like the mighty Danube that the city spans, Budapest is majestic and at the same time a very vibrant city that seems to be growing in every way you can imagine.
|
The different sides of the river - Buda and Pest sides have their own character and appeal. Each keeps an eye on the other with their magnificent buildings, sharing importance and historical worth. The bridges themselves are great, especially when lit up at night.

Favourite spots: |
Favourite spots include the Fishermans Bastion, the statues at the Castle, the Cathedral and the great indoor market. The funicular railway is worth a trip - calmly efficient, it saves a fair climb, when there is already lots of walking to do!

What's really great: |
I liked the people. They look at you, seem friendly, with a ready smile. I enjoyed the food as well, and loved the decorations they did with their peppers, especially in the little old shop round St Matthias Church

Sights: |
The search for the cathedral was fun. From the other side of the river, the cathedral is so prominent, you cannot believe it is hard to find. The streets are so filled with beautiful big buildings, you cannot see the cathedral till you are in the same square. we called it looking for God, as there is a fine painting of God in the top of the dome of the cathedral - very special.

Accommodations: |
I was lucky enough to get a room overlooking the Danube at the Hotel Matyas. The view was just wonderful and set the scene for a great visit. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good.

|
Restaurants: |
We enjoyed eating at Fatal. the name caused the usual jokes, and being underground perhaps added a certain ambiance. The food was delicious and the portions were generous, the staff were very good and service was fine. would recommend it.

Good but I find it tantalising. I hope to go to Budapest before long so I want to know about it. If I hadn't before, htis report would make me - which is fine. However, since I already did, it keeps stopping just as I am expecting more. What statues? What food etc
Cheers, David |
