Some of the clearest water you will find anywhere in the Caribbean. Visibility can be 150 feet or more depending on the water currents. Right off shore we saw literally thousands of fish - the bright yellow and black striped Sergeant Majors are my favorite. The only downside – LOTS of mosquitoes!

Carlos and Charlies, snorkeling behind our condo, Hard Rock Cafe

What's really great: |
The Tarzan Tour (now called Dune Buggy Tours) we took to the east side of the island in custom-built dune buggies was a BLAST!

Definitely take the Tarzan Tour (now Dune Buggy Tours) http://www.cozumel.travelnotes.cc/tours/dunebuggy.html
to the other side of the island. We even convinced them to take us to the Punta Molas Lighthouse - you can't get there by car because it is off the paved road so the only way to get there is on a tour and the Tarzan Tour (now Dune Buggy Tours) dune buggies are FUN!!! Take plenty of bug spray - when we stopped on the unpopulated side of the island the mosquito swarms were thick and immediate!

Accommodations: |
We rented a condo through At Home in Cozumel (http://www.cozumel.tc) in Cantamar Condominiums. We had unit 202 and it was VERY nice - I would not hesitate to rent this condo again. Walk out the door and down a few steps to the pool (but the pool was pretty cloudy - we never used it). Then down a few more steps to easy entry into the ocean with great snorkeling right there! We took some bagels to feed the Sergeant Majors and they swarmed us!

Restaurants: |
We had a delicious first meal at Carlos and Charlies plus got a great souvenir photo and frame to boot. Hard Rock Cafe was good but pretty typical of all Hard Rock Cafes. The best meal we had was the lunch they served on the Tarzan Tour!

Other recommendations: |
Check out the Mayan El Cedral Ruins - but be sure to take plenty of bug spray! They are not the biggest ruins in Mexico but we found them interesting none the less.
