Riumar is the seaside district of Deltebre , separated by rice fields. It is mainly made up of houses , a village by the sea. A wonderful find of a place & very popular with the Germans.

This is a lovely quiet place hardly a resort at all & that is exactly how we like it. Riumar will not suit everyone but if you want a beautiful golden sand beach & warm sea for a family this could be the place for you ! Remember to bring your own chairs & umbrellas for the beach is as nature intended - unfurnished ! Near the beach are 3 or 4 wooden kiosks serving drinks & there are 6 or 7 cafe / restaurants arround , most only open in the summer & that goes for the supermarket & butcher's too. The beach as I have said is great in every sense, very big, with sand dunes, part of the nature reserve. It is close to the mouth of the Ebro where there are more restaurants that stay open most of the year.Last year an apartment hotel opened in Riumar & there are 2 caravan sites either end of Riumar , very much for family accomadation. But really Riumar is noted for its villas available to rent, all different some with their own pools such as mine, Las Palmeras. In Deltebre itself I am told there is a disco & tennis can be played in Riumar. Bird watching is a major pastime & there are watch towers all over the delta for this, including on the beach at Riumar.

Favourite spots: |
We walk a long way on the beach by the waters edge with our little dog. Also we like to walk along the river where it meets the sea & have a bite to eat at the restaurants there. Here you can take a ferry across to the isle of Buda or a boat trip to the mouth of the Ebro & out to sea. Those that like sea fishing can find companies along here who will take them.

What's really great: |
I love the beach best of all, it is never crowded & only 300 metres from my villa. The air is warm & the sky blue & so very big because the delta is flat !I like to sit on the terrace till 11 olock at night because it is so warm , unlike the UK. Markets I find irresistible there is one in Deltebre & another, a better one in Amposta [ 20 kilometres away] on Thursday mornings. On Monday there is another big one in Tortosa.

Sights: |
The whole delta is interesting. Go & see the flamingoes on the other side of the river & swim at Eucalyptus beach even bigger than the one at Riumar.

Get on to this website. www.Riumar.de We originally stayed in a nice little place through them & found & bought our villa because we loved it in Riumar so much . You can take your well behaved dog with you too ! Ou villa is Las Palmeras but there are many more to choose from.
The Delta hotel near Cava Deltebre is good , that is where we stayed on our 1st & 2nd visits.

Restaurants: |
In the summer there is a free buffet 16 euros a head drinks extra ! Terrific value, Lots of everything to eat, fill up the family here. It is just outside Riumar on the corner where you turn for Buda.
The Delta hotel near Deltebre , Cava district serves very good traditional food.
There are many orther restaurants arround, let me know what you recommend.

Other recommendations: |
Sant Carles a nice very Spanish resort. Tortosa an old university town go look at the Cathedral there. Walk in the mountains too. I feel that I should have mentioned this earlier, sorry . You do need a car to get about here; also there are no land lines in Riumar , there are in Deltebre proper , so you may need a mobile phone. E-mail can be accessed in places in Deltebre.

Great to see a new member wading in with such a good report. It certainly needs a car! Trying to get to see the birds from Tarragana on a day trip was a major disaster. |

Hi Pat,
You have really taken to writing, two reports in a short time. I liked this one better than your previous one because there is more detail. |
