This is a very out of the way place and while I had a good experience here, one should be careful if passing through by themselves. I read this is very dangerous and fundamentalists actually shoot tourists from the sugar cane fields. I was bored to tears on a falukka trip (small sailboat) that was supposed to be 3 days from Aswan to Luxor. I got off in Kom Ombo and went on my own. After waiting for a bus for four hours, I got some help from some locals that went way out of their way to help me. They gave me cold drinks, got me out of the sun and made great conversation. They took me to another bus station and got me out of town. The town itself however, is very poor and dirty. If you do come this way, I would highly recommend not staying the night here. The details, as in this picture, are very well preserved. It is amazing how areas such as Kom Ombo and Karnak can survive the thousands of years of natural and human elements that come in contact with the designs and scripts.

Favourite spots: |
The temples in Kom Ombo are worth seeing. They are very detailed and have great hieroglyphics. This is nothing compared to Karnak, of course, but worth seeing if you are here.

What's really great: |
For me, the people. I could not believe how much they helped me get out of sticky situation. I think this was a unique experience, but from what I got out of it, was complete selflessness.

Accommodations: |
There is one hotel in town that I would recommend. Supposed to be safe and it is right next to the police station, but double check and be sure to have a reservation.

Hangouts: |
None that I know of.
