I don't wanna restrict this report to Mahon only. I wanna tell you the whole truth about Menorca: It's a beautiful little island with gorgeous landscape and a lot of wonderful hidden beaches to die for! There are those nice villages and little towns with their traditional fests and their nice and friendly inhabitants. You can also find several archeological sites where you can get an impression of the cultural heritage of the so called Taliot Culture. Menorca is famous for it's special Mahon Cheese which is made of cow milk (and you can see all these cows all over the island), the Gin (which was brought by the English) and last but not least the Mayonaise was invented in Mahon. Menorca is a "horse island", especially the Menorcian stallions are really famous and you can see them at every traditional event.

Favourite spots: |
MONTE TORRO: the highest peak on Menorca, awesome views over the island (especially the west and north west) COVA DEL COLOMS: a huge cave in a beautiful canyon leading down from Es Migjorn Gran to the coast. CALES COVES: a big nekropole consisting of several caves directly at the cost. CAP DE CAVALLERIA: the most northern cap on Menorca. There's a beacon on the cliff which is about 90m above the sea. TALATI DE DALT: archeological site, gives you a great overview of the way the Talaiots built there villages. CALA MORELL: some more (but not only)caves there... some for housing some as burial chambers. Also a point of geological interest. Beautiful coastline with different kinds of stones. NAVETA D'ES TUDONS: one of the best conserved prehistoric buildings, which was used as a tomb. PEDERES DE S'HOSTAL: old quarry (200 years) CIUTADELLA: go there in the evening, it's a beautiful town. BEST BEACHES: Cala Macarelleta, Cala Mitjana, Cala Trebaluger.

What's really great: |
If you have the chance to visit one of the two big traditional fests on Menorca, DO IT! There's the Festes de Sant Joan in Ciutadella (June 23rd to 24th) and the Festes de Gracia in Mahon (September 7th to 9th). On both events you can watch the famous Menorcian stallions and their riders. They take the horses in the middle of a huge crowed on a big place. Then the crowd and the riders try to rise the horses and keep them up as long as possible. Everybody drinks lots of Pomada (Gin with lemonade), that's why a lot of the people around the horses are braver than they should be.... It's just an awesome spectacle to watch!

Nightlife: |
COVA D'EN XOROI: this is an awesome (house) club in a natural shaped cave at the coast. From the dancefloor you can look down the cliff and watch the waves... It's unbelievable. You should go there during the day, too, because at night you don't see very much from the great views. The daylight entry fee is 4,50? with one drink incl. and in the night it costs 15? incl. a drink.
